Sounds like we need a starter motor current draw test to evaluate ur starters condition.this can b done at any shop w a charging an starting system analyzer.if ur stater is drawing more than250 amps to325a or even higher amperage draw ur starter motor is bad..on a northstar the starter is under ur intake manifold, not an easy job,if u have the other caddy motor then starter can b changed from under car. not too bad to change,on a lift of course

All the lights work horn radio windows work but it wont try to start like the batters dead but its not i tryed to jump it but nothing happond

Remove the starter relay, check for power at terminal, continuity to starter solenoid, and one more thing-jump relay terminals until you get the clicking noise of the starter solenoid trying to engage. If you hear the click at the starter but still won't turn over, tap the starter solenoid two or three times lightly. Check for power at starter lug. Loose terminals at the battery or corrosion is also of importance.

My husband was ill for quite a while. I disconnected the battery to my 1991 toyota v6 fuel injected, automatic, over a year ago. Today I hooked up the battery, charged it, and nothing. Engine will not turn...

Put a full charge on the battery, then put a load test on the battery. It may have a dead cell or two, which would cause the car not to start. Another thing to check would be the cleanliness of the batter posts and the cable ends. If they are corroded badly, could cause a non-start problem.

Turn the ignition, car won't start. new starter

Hi, First thing have you checked to see if you have power at stater. You can take a test light to see if you have power on stater, if not check battery connections and make sure you have a full charge battery,if all this check out OK have some one to turn ing.switch while you take your test light to the small wire on starter solenoid to see if you getting power from switch. If no power on line could be starter relay or check and see if it will start in netural, if so you would need to check netural safety switch mounted on side of transmission. If i can help you anymore just re post
Thanks dodge tec

Just changed the stater, however, it will only click when i turn the key, any suggestions

In order to have the starter work, the solenoid has to close the positive connection to the starter. The solenoid now is corroded inside, when it click to engage the contact inside, but the contact is not good to conduct the current to the starter. Therefore your starter is not turning. Need to replace the solenoid. it is on top of your starter. Here is the image. 5cc5b1b.jpg

Wont start

just one click or a rapid clicking???? a bad connection could cause this, or if its one big click and nothing happens, the starter solenoid may be bad. have someone tap on the stater while you hold the key in the start position. if it then starts, replace the starter. Buy quality parts, NOT from AZ if thats where you get parts.

Starter engauges turnes slowly. new starter batt neg and poss cab

First you should check the ground cable and ensure good contact. Second make sure the battery is fuly charged (over night is best on a slow charger). It looked like you said a new battery so a good charge should fix it if it is the problem. I assume you have good connections on the parts you already changed. It is probably a bad starter (motor). You can remove it and have it tested. If it is good you might have an internal engine problem. Try turning the crankshaft. It should turn by pulling on the drive belts. Well it sounds like a bad starter.

Car won't start 97 windstar

Check battery voltage (should be at least 12v at battery and starter terminal) If 12v, check to see if you can turn the engine by hand (ign off) If you can't then it's locked up. (internal problem) Also, starter may be defective...just because its in a box, dosen't mean it's good (sad fact)
Hope it's a bad unit...better than a doa engine!!!
Good luck with it!

New starter good batt. only clicks wont turn over 1995 montero

The Batt does not have a full charge or it is the wrong cranking AMP's for the car... find out if it is the right Batt and also that it is put on a "slow charge" over night or at least 6 hr's

Engine don't start and have a clicking sound

you should check and see the batttery smart visor indicator (if applicable - see owners manual)
this may be that the battery has been drained and does not have enough power to rotate the starter. lights, dashboard, instruments light up ok as the voltage is there but the power (amperage) is low. please refer to owners manual on how to recharge your battery. bare in mind that removing the baterry from the care will reset systems (audio, alarm) and you wil need to recode them by using the codes provided with the car.
