The check engine light will blink if there is a serious problem that could damage the catalytic converter. The loss of power could be multiple things such as a misfire or maybe even a catalytic converter that has failed and is clogging the exhaust. Have it scanned to see what the codes are and go from there.

The check engine light indicates a problem, many times the car will run fine, or seem to, but u should get the codes read to determine what's wrong, and correct the problem, as it can lead to other troubles. Not sure about parts stores in Australia, but in the US they offer free car checks of trouble codes when the engine light is on. They plug a hand held scan tool into a port under the dash, and 'read' any codes stored in the cars computer. Write down the numbers for your records, and ask them what the codes mean, and how to fix the problem. If u have any questions, post them here w/ the codes for help.

SOURCE: SES light then Reduced engine power light, loss of engine power

Hi It me Mohammad Siddiq my dear. First of all it will be wise of use to take your vehicle to a dealership or any other fully equipped w/shop. They can better tell you what the fault your vehicle has. But at the same time if your friend has the same model vehicle so you can exchange some parts with that vegicle, e.g., Mass Air Flow or TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) and can check your vehicle. These parts do not need to be programmed with scan tool. Just Simply replace these parts and switch on the ignition and wait for 01 minute, then switch off for 30 seconds and then start the engine. Now road test your vehicle, if no SES light or reduced power then there was fault with the part/s replaced. So Return those parts and now you must replace these parts with new or used ones. Anything else I may be contacted on my yahoo id siddiq_pathan@yahoo.com. Thanks. I am an auto technician and working in a GM dealership in Saudi Arabia. I am from Pakistan.

Engine skipping on a buick Rendezvous

When the check engine light is on, the computer has found a problem that can affect fuel economy or emissions.
When the light flashes the problem is serious.
You need to get the computer scanned for trouble codes to proceed with testing.

My 2000 honda accord lx's check engine light has been on but now it's blinking ever since my car started shaking really bad.

A blinking check engine light is a signal that a damaging misfire is occurring in one or more cylinders. Your car is shaking because of the uneven power loss between firing cylinders and those that are misfiring. If you take your car to a major auto parts store, they will read out the stored trouble codes in your car's computer memory--and they'll do it for free. These codes will tell you which cylinders are misfiring and will help you find out why. Do it soon before more engine damage occurs--$$$$.

Problem starting, Loss of Power

The flashing or "blinking" service engine light is indicating an over fueling condition that may damage the catalytic converter. There is a good possibility you have a defective or stuck injector, possibly ignition issue.
Take you car to Auto Zone and ask to have the codes read, they will do this for you at no charge, write the codes down and reply back.
Let me know.

03 JGC losses power engine light blinks

I would start with a test drive with a fuel pressure gauge on it make sure you have spec. 35 - 40 psi. Clear codes and record all the freeze frame data in obd2 as you will need this in the diag process. 442 and 456 are evap codes I believe, do they return with the 300 misfire codes? Either way you need to reproduce the problem with the gauge on it and get the first code it sets. Could be fuel pump/filter/sending unit assy. In this case you will need to pay attention to the fuel level when this occurs. (same level as before)
