Does the Kia Sedona 2.9 diesel, 53 plate (2003) have a fuel pump in or near the fuel tank? It wont start and it used to make a faint humming when you put key in ignition as though it was pressurising the system, it no longer makes this noise and wont start.

I have tried a search and i cannot find where the 02 sedona offered a diesel option motor, i found only one available motor and that was a 3.5 sfi , well that pump is in the tank. Did you try and put diesel fuel in this vehicle? as it wont run on diesel.and its possible it fried the pump. but you will have to drain tank and flush fuel lines if this is the case.

Testimonial: "Cheers for your help, mine is a diesel engine and has a mechanical pump on engine, but thought there may be an electric one in tank also."

thank you siliconsean3 for the rating but it doesn't seem as i deserved it. If it was a diesel i should have said it had a mechanical pump but i didnt see that option so now i'm gonna go do some more search. i hope it was a easy inexpensive fix for you.

Hi, thanks for the help, its still not running, i took fuel tank off but there is no pump inside, been on various forum,s and the responce i'm getting seems to be maybe the immoboliser or a faulty fuel injector, still trying to find a garage able to run a test on them both, beginning to wish i'd chosen a different car now. :-(

I have a kia sedona 2004 2.9 diesel, i punctured the fuel filler neck lost all fuel repaired it and managed to get me home but on way home em light lit wont start now unless i rapid pump primer help

Sounds like you have damaged the fuel tank mounted fuel pickup pump. The pump is cooled and lubricated by the fuel it is immersed in, so when you lost all the fuel you likely ruined the pump.

Kia 2.9cc diesel sedona will not start

Check your ignition key switch, or better yet replace it. It could just be dirty resulting to poor electrical contact or it may really be defective. Make sure that your Preheaters are all okay,a faulty preheater accounts for hard starting to dead engine. ANother thing to check is your fuel pump. If there isnt enough diesel on the reservoir, your engine wont start.

I have a 2003 Kia sedona ran out of igas now wont start the code I get say crank posistioning sensor will that cut or cause the fuel pump not to work cause I get no humming from it the code is p0335

No this does not affect the fuel pump. It will affect the spark though. Hit the gas tank in the center a few times. If it starts then replace the fuel pump. Unfortunetly pumps with a few yaers on them will die when ran out of gas. If it doesn't start pull one of the spark plug wires, insert a screwdriver and put it close to the engine. crank the engine and watch for a spark. if there is no spark then replace the crank shaft sensor. before you replace the fuel pump.

My 2003 kia sedona ran out of gas. Now after adding gas i can not get it to start. HELP

You might have a fuel pump problem after running out of gas. Fuel pumps use gasoline to stay cool, and when there is no gas they can overheat. Also, a good way to tell if your fuel pump is running, is to turn the key to the "run position" ( right before the car starts) and listen for a humming/buzzing sound coming from the fuel tank.

My kia sedona will only start when i prime the diesel filter by hand, then it runs faultlessly as long as i need to. however, within five minutes of stopping the engine it will not start again on the...

Yes it could be the pump, but also it could be a leaking injector or a clogged up diesel filter.

If the injectors are leaking they will be sucking in air and forcing the fuel back to the tank,

you can pour water around each injector to see if any are bubbling. Get the fuel filter changed and have the system bled through before replacing the fuel pump. they are very expensive.

Hope this helps

Tank was empty...and wan't start now....i put fuel in....but does start....what i suposse to do? it s a kia carnival automatic...diesel

There is air in the fuel pump...locate the fuel filter there is a round cap on top of it that you can push down like pumping fuel into the injection pump. When it gets hard, loosen the wing nut for about 3 turns just enough to let the air escape. Do this process until what comes out is a solid flow of fuel, which indicates no more air trapped. This is how diesel engines behave... hope this helps
