Question about 2006 BMW 7 Series

Open Question

I have a 750i, 2006. I have major transmission problems. First, my car would not back up then it showed a transmission fault saying D2, D3, were available. Then, I had a problem going forward; I turned the car off trying to reset the system. It eventually back up great but I had to reeve it up to get it to go forward. Finally, I got it going and rolled through a few stop signs to get it home. Is there a recall or ongoing problem with 750i transmissions? Any assistance on how to repair and where can I find the cheapest transmission if worse comes to worse. Upset in Louisiana

Replace your battery when its being tested there not testing it under a heavy enough load. A battery could have a dead cell in it and still show good on the charger. I've had that problem a few times.

SOURCE: Finding the PIN to pair My iphone with 2006 BMW 750i.

I have the same car. The dealership wanted to charge me $155 to go into the computer and give me the passkey.

One of the techs just told me how to find it myself:

Inside the trunk, on the left side behind the DVD player, there is a box that sits at a 45 degree angle. Right above that box, there is a box that is shaped like a VHS tape. Unscrew that box and on the other side you will see bluetooth PK: and your four digit number.

That saved me $155 dollars and now I can talk hands free through my car.

What causes transmission fluid leak on 2007 bmw 750i

You do not say where the leak is; front, middle, or back of transmission.
There is a 210mm x 3mm o-ring and 128mm x 3mm o-ring for mating parts. There is a fill plug with o-ring on the side, a drain plug with o-ring and an oil pan gasket on the bottom. Common causes are age of the o-ring or gasket material, pinching of the o-ring during installation, or failure to have a clean surface for the gasket during installation. This assumes all fasteners have been properly tightened.

It's probably a bad internal mode switch . The sensor is input to the PCM - engine computer .
The lever assembly-manual shaft detent with internal mode switch (IMS) is a sliding contact electrical switch assembly that corresponds to the PRNDL position selected. Each of the PRNDL positions has a unique ground pattern on four wires from the PCM.
The assembly consists of two major components:
• The internal mode switch that consists of:
- The housing (1), which makes up the stationary contacts.
- The insulator (2), which makes up the moving contacts and is secured on the detent lever (4).
• The lever assembly which consists of:
- The manual shaft (3)
- The detent lever (4)
The range detection is accomplished by securing the moving contacts to the detent lever. When the driver selects a PRNDL position, the detent lever inside the transmission rotates. This rotates the insulator which in turn grounds the four wires in a unique pattern for each gear selection, corresponding to the PRNDL position selected. The IMS is electrically connected by five wires (four of which the PCM supplies voltage to and one wire that is a common ground) to the transmission pass through connector.

Range Selector Displays Incorrect Range

The transmission internal mode switch (IMS) is a sliding contact switch attached to the selector detent inside the transmission side cover. The four inputs to the PCM indicate the position of the transmission range selector. The input voltage level at the PCM is high, B+, when the IMS is open and low when the switch is closed to ground. The four input parameters represented are Signals A, B, C and P, Parity. Refer to Transmission Internal Mode Switch Logic .
1
Install a scan tool.
Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
Select IMS on the scan tool.
Place the range selector in each transmission range: P, R, N, D4, D3, D2 and D1.
Does each range selected match the scan tool IMS display?
--
Go to Powertrain Control Module Replacement in Engine Controls - 3.1L or Intermittent Conditions in Engine Controls - 3.8L
Go to Step 2
2
Select IMS A/B/C/P on the scan tool.
Place the range selector in each transmission range: P, R, N, D4, D3, D2 and D1.
Does the IMS A/B/C/P display the specified values for each range?
HI/HI/HI/HI
Go to Step 12

Your best bet , take it to a qualified repair shop !

Hi I'm an owner of a 1998 Honda Oddysey. I would like know the mechanics of using its automatic gear transmissions and specific function. For example when do I use D3 or D2 etc... And how do I shift...

Hi,
Gear usage.
The Drive is for normal driving.
D2 is for hill/steep climbing drive.
D3 is for hill/steep going down drive.
If you have overdrive button, use it when you exceed 60mph.
That's all you have to do when you see roads that is going up nor down.

Thaks for asking FixYa!

Unfortunately, there is very little that an untrained person can do much more to an automatic transmission than check the fluid and make sure that it is getting coolant so that it doesn't get too hot.
I work on cars all the time, and have rebuilt two automatic transmissions. One I was lucky and got it exactly right (beginners luck) and the other one I didn't. After multiple trys and probably replacing good parts, I gave up and took it to a transmission shop. So unless you are either VERY LUCKY or trained to work on them, my advice is to bite the bullet and seak professional help.

Gear Position light D4 is always flashing irrespective of gear.

This issue is caused by a transmission fault or malfunction, most likely a shift solenoid in the trans has failed or the trans control module has a problem, the trans can be tested for codes that will show what circuit or component of the trans controls is causing the light to stay blinking, have it tested.
