CC and horn quit working. I have a 2004 Ford Ranger extended cab XLT. the door ajar light came on so I disconnected the dome light, now my cc and horn don't work

Ok, but I disconnected the lights at the dome itself not in the wiring harness. It started with my light "door ajar". Then the CC and Horn went out.

    Hi,

My problem started with the "door ajar" light on the dash, then the dome light would not go out, so I disconnected the light at the dome itself.

The CC and Horn quit after that.

    cruise control

  • renaewhite1 Apr 08, 2011

I know this may sound silly, however, I noticed that it started when the passenger door closed and I tried to use the seat belt, it was locked, so, I guess I'm not sure.

  • renaewhite1 Apr 08, 2011

    do you have any ideas?

    Thanks!

  • renaewhite1 Apr 08, 2011

First, the wiring was not touched in the harness at all. What was disconnected was in the dome light itself. I have not checked the fuses for the Cruise Control or Horn.
The seat belt on the passenger side was locked up the other day. Not sure is this is part of the problem of the dome light and "door ajar" light coming on.

The horn and the cruse control both get there power fom fuse #13 it is a 15amp fuse in the instrument panel fuse box, also the cruse get a power up response from the PCM and if it thinks that one of the doors is open it will not power up the cruse, so you will have to fix the dome light circuit before the cruse will work, but first check the fuse #13.

let me know if there is any thing else i can do for you.

Hi there. Just a little clarification, what do you mean by cc? It sounds like a fuse or relay issue.

There might have been a loose connection for your CC and the horn since the wiring for this two can be found in the same harness. Look also for loose wires which may be the ground wires. It is also possible that when removing the other wires you may have shorted out the fuse, have them inspected. Wiring issue may also be the cause of your original problem, the alarm.

I see I was just thinking that the wires may have been moved or disconnected by accident. When you mean CC its Center Console correct? Please correct me if I am wrong.

  • Anonymous Apr 08, 2011

I would still look at the wiring although it is really odd that the two will affect each other. I am also thinking that it could be just a coincidence that the CC is not working. Normally we look at the wires from the switch and to the speed sensor on the transmission.

Where is the location of the battery saver relay on 2004 Ford Ranger Edge 3.0L V6

Principles of Operation
Interior Lighting The interior lighting is broken down into two groups: the courtesy lamps and the illuminated entry lamps. Both lighting features interact with the courtesy light arbitrator. The battery saver is also listed in this section.
Courtesy Lighting The courtesy lamps consist of the dome lamp and/or map lights. The courtesy lamps can be activated by the GEM using the panel dimmer switch, or by any ajar door. The courtesy lamps will shut off when the doors are closed and the illuminated entry feature is not active, or when the vehicle speed is greater than 8 kph (5 mph). The interior lamps will not be reactivated until the vehicle speed is less than 5 kph (3 mph) and a new door open warning lamp switch signal is received. The inputs are:
  • ignition switch position
  • driver door ajar switch
  • front passenger door ajar switch
  • rear left door ajar switch
  • rear right door ajar switch
  • vehicle speed switch (VSS)
The outputs are:
  • battery saver relay
  • interior lamp relay

Have a 04 super cab ranger tremor and when i turn the dome light and the door ajar light comes on how can i fix that

turn off the dome light.

the door opens, it turns on the dome light, so the wire that goes from the door switch gets powered up and makes your dome light come on. if your door is closed, and you turn on the dome light, the same wire gets power and is actually sending power to your light bulb on the dash.
just ignore it , or get a diode and put it on the correct wire, and it wont allow the electricity to flow back towards the light bulb when you put the dome light on.

I have a 1999 ford ranger 2 wheel drive automatic

Sometimes this works, ABS light on, check engine light on, speedometer not working, and the automatics start shifting hard or not shifting at all? One bolt and the part is cheap, its weird how one part controls so much.

How do I get the door ajar/dome light to go out

I hear removing the relay for the door ajar will remendy this problem. So many people have replaced this relay and get no better results from it. My Ranger has the same problem ever since it was 9 months old. I tried two new relays and the problem comes back within months. That is why I just totally done away with mine. I rigged up a hot wire to my dome light so I can use it while I am in the truck. I know where the seat is in the dark so I don't need a dome light when I open my door.

Dome light won't shut off after truck is off and doors are shut and door ajar light is on while driving but all three doors are shut.

sounds like one of the dome light switches is bad pop them out one by one and disconnect only one at a time until the light goes out or door ajar goes off, then a quick trip to the parts store and you are good to go! :) hope that helps

The 2002 Ford Ranger XLT airbag light blinks

The airbag is there, what's most likely wrong is the key switch may be going bad. Take your Ranger to a reputable mechanic and ask them to check it...unless you have an OBD II or a multimeter.
