Question about 2005 Dodge Neon

1 Answer

I have a 2005 Dodge neon with 157K miles just had the orignal timing belt replaced. When I start the car and the rpms hit about 3400 the car starts cutting out. Now I get the check engine light and when I have the codes read it comes up with P0016. I have replaced both the camshaft position sensor and crankshaft postion sensor. after replacing each of these sensors I had the codes cleared and still the light comes on.

Check your vacuum lines, it sounds like one did not get reconnected correctly. When this happens you check engine to come on and will cause your engine's rpm's to rise.

    I did have a vacuum line that had a hole in it but it has been fixed and still have the same problem. The car does not have a problem with high rpm's

MY DODGE NEON 2005 MAKES A CLICKING NOISE, USES OIL LIKE YOU DO GAS AND OVER HEATS, IVE TAKEN TO CAR DEALERSHIP TO HAVE FIXED AND IT IS ONLY TEMP FIXED AND GOES RIGHT BACK TO THE OLD WAY.

It could be your timing belt .That would make it burn oil and the noise could be your valves hitting the pistons. Take the spark plugs out and see if they are black that will tele you if they are burning oil. The timing belt should be changed after 80,000 miles .

It will be a leak somewhere in the system.

Can a P0340 also reflect a broken timing belt?

code p 0340 refers to camshaft position sensor(CMP) sensor A bank 1---circuit malfunction===causes ---wiring---CMP sensor ECM
have the CMP sensor checked / replaced
when you are checking the sensor , turn the engine over and if the camshaft is turning , it is not a timing belt
However if the engine has not had a timing belt changed (requirement at 60K miles) It would be a good move to have it done as it is well over due and will fail soon

Dodge Neon 2005) Car will not start.

I was having the same exact problem with my 2005 neon as well. The guy at Discount auto suggested the starter itself was the problem(cost approx $200). The car isn't old enough to be having a starter issue so I figured it was something more simplilar. My dad took a look and founf out it was the starter relay. It is located in the black fuse/relay box on the driver's side right next to the battery. I had to get a new relay at the dealership(cost $20) and my car starts perfectly. Hope this helps
