I think the timing belt may have snapped. Open the timing belt cover or valve cover to see if the camshaft turn when the engine is cranked.

Rover 75 2.0 td wont start starts with easy start wont run without it

stop using easy start cos it will polish the cylinder bores and you will lose compression.
you need to do a compression test first and remove / test the gloplugs.
If the compressions are low it will require a rebuild

Car on starts on starting fluid and runs all day

If your saying that the car won't start on its own, but will run fine all day as long as you start it with starting fluid, this could mean that you have low cylinder compression. Check for leaking or bent valves or a blown head gasket. An engine needs alot more compression starting just to get everything turning and rotating. As an engine gets faster, the compression is less of an issue because everything is happening so fast, the compression don't have time to leak down like it does while starting. 90% sure if you check cylinder compression, you will have two or more cylinders that won't hold pressure, basically becoming a hinderance to the rest of the cylinders instead of a helping hand.

Car wont start without spraying starting fluid in it

I would check the compression. As air compresses it heats up. A trick I've used on cold diesels is to bump the starter trying not to let the motor actually turn over, so you keep compressing the same air. Do that a few times then try starting.

I got into work this morning and it died. When I try to start it up it sounds horrible kind of like it has a dry throat. I can't get it to start

If it sounds like the engine is coughing or rasping through a dry throat while cranking, it could be that the timing belt broke. If this happens, the valves will be out of time and you will not get any compression in the cylinders. Air leaking past half open valves caused the weird rasping sound. This is why the engine cannot start. A cylinder compression test will confirm this. A mechanic with a compression gauge can perform this test where your car is sitting. You need not take it to a shop for the compression test. However, if the test indicates no compression in multiple cylinders, the timing belt is broken and the car will need to be towed.

I sincerely hope I am dead wrong. Good luck!

My 2003 sunfire wont start its getting fire and gas and it turns but wont start why

Please consider following matters:
1. Ignition. Blue color fire is the the best ignition power 2. Gas. Check your fuel filter and injections 3. Compression. Combustion chambers should have enough compression to start the engine. Does your car lost its compression? Is the car has blue smoke on exhaust muffler ? Do you need top up oil regularly? All these things show your car has problem with compression.

My 1995 Saturn sl1 engine just won't start ...I'm getting spark and gas and the engine is turning over it just doesn't want to start please help thanks

Engines need three things to run, spark, fuel, compression, all at the right time. If your fuel pressure is good and you have spark then that leaves compression. Before you bother with a compression test first try to spray starter fluid in the intake to see if it will start on that. If it starts, it will die after it burns the fluid but at least you'll know the engine is good and you have a fuel delivery issue. If it won't start on the fluid then you need to do a compression test. You can get a compression tester from any auto parts store (I think even Wal-mart sells them) and follow the directions on the tester to do the test. Write down the results and post them here.

Rdiator hosee came detatched from bottom...replaced it and car wont start timing is not broken..was told engine is getting no compression

Timing may have jumped teeth, belt may be intact, but not aligned correctly. This will give you bad compression readings. That or you have fried the engine.

Car bacxkriring to air filters when start then when gets hot runs

that is usually the indication of leaky valve and stem seal. you can cure it by having your cylinder head rebuilt or replace. first check your compression if you have a low compression on some cylinder squirt oil to cylinder then redo compression test if no change on reading then you need work on your cylinder head.

My car will not start it's firing and has gas..and i think it's compression but without a compression tester how can i know

It is almost impossible to accurately measure compression without a gauge. They are a valuable tool to have and can be purchased at an auto parts store for around $20.

If the car just stopped working, it is probably not a compression issue. These cars have a timing chain and the components are very reliable. As long as it never ran out of oil I doubt that it is a compression issue.

I would fest the fuel pressure. Even if it smells like it is getting fuel, just a few PSI variation from what it should be will cause it to not start.

My 84 camaro will not start

if one cylinder isn't getting enough compression, the other cylinders might not be getting enough either. see, if there isn't enough compression, when the fuel ignites it is escaping someplace instead of pushing the piston causing the motor to run.
