If you are looking at your oil dip stick and it is milky it has "water" , in it. This is caused by a blown head gasket. It will get worse and and do more damage. You can take and get pressure tested and see for sure if eather the head gasket or the head racked, good luck with it . If you need anything further just let me know ,

Engine Coolant Strength

Hello Everybody!!!
Guess what? Yup....It's wintertime again!! Time to start winterizing your vehicle.Have you checked one of the most important fluids in your engine? The antifreeze in your motor needs to be mixed properly and up to par in the coolant reservoir and radiator both.A simple five minute test can save you a lot of money and give you a lot of reassurance also.Your local autoparts store carries antifreeze test bulbs that you use to test the strength of your antifreeze with.Get those levels up and/or flushed.Happy Holidays, and Happy Motoring!!!!

Why radiator wont hold water

Is your antifreeze leaking on the ground in the front of the motor ? There are many different things to do to find the right answer to this question. 1 : pull the motor dipstick. If oil mixes with the water - antifreeze the dipstick will look milky. If it does not. And looks good. Then 2: with water in the radiator don't put antifreeze in it keeps wasting $$ til leak is found. 3 : start motor look from under the front of the water pump with a flashlight if you have a dripping from a weep hole in the water pump bottom behind the fan. If you can't find a leak shut off the motor. Feel the bottom of the water pump if there is a presence of water you'll need a new one. If not .4:if the motor is over heating or has been blowing antifreeze out of the overflow hose along the side of the radiator. If so the thermostat may be stuck. Much cheaper repair.

I have a 2000 audi a4 quattro with a 1.8t motor something blew apart and caused it to drain every bit of the antifreeze outta my car so what's a antifreeze I can get fast to put in it so it's not sitting...

Any antifreeze that has ethelene glycol in will do . For freezing conditions a mix of 55-60% anti freeze will be required . Castrol concentrate is a good one and mix it before pouring in the radiator. So for a 10 litre system mix 6 parts of antifreeze to 4 parts of water. Work out your requirements like that.

Change thermostat

drain the radiator- follow the top hose to the motor-where it connects to the motor should be a hose clamp and the thermostat housing-undo the bolts -clean off the old gasket and take the old thermostat with you to the auto parts store to match it up -be sure to pick up 2 gallons of antifreeze and a gasket with the new thremostat -don't reuse your antifreeze -it becomes corrosive when it gets old- bolt in new thermostat-be sure it goes in the way the old one came out- fill up the antifreeze and you'll be golden -cheers Denny

I just flushed my radiator and bought two gallons of antifreeze. I have a 1998 GMC Sierra 2500 4X4 454 7.4 L. How and how much antifreeze/water do i put it. I have no owners manuel.

the final ratio is half water and half antifreeze, since the engine will have water left after the flush add antifreeze first thenwater and check it with a hydrometer or tester

Motor oil spewing onto the engine. my car is a 1996 chevy cavalier and well maintaned. it has a radiator leak also. could the antifreeze be mixing with engine oil

Unfortunately, this sounds like you have a bad head gasket. The motor oil is most likely mixing with the antifreeze as well. This also explains the antifreeze leak.

I wish I had better news for you! :(

Antifreeze

the color of the antifreeze will have zero effect on the problem you are having.  I suspect the replacement engine has a leaking manifold gasket or a blown head gasket.  Why would you buy an engine with that many miles on it?

Leaking antifreeze

could quite possibly be the water pump. There is a weep hole under the shaft, when the bearings go, the antifreeze leaks out at that point. Try checking w/ motor off using a small mirror to get a look under the water pump. If u see corrosion, or it's wet, get a new pump installed. Let me know what u find. good luck countrycurt0

Radiator issues

well, 50 50 means half antifreeze and half water. if your tight on money, get straight coolant and mix with water. 50% coolant/antifreeze and 50% water. That's why it's called texaco 50/50. Your paying more for there water then you would out of your faucet. If your not able to fix the leak yourself, take it to a shop. You can spend around $200 in a shop now or $300 in antifreeze over the next year. Your choice but to me it's better to fix now then later. Cuz if it runs dry, motor overheats. Hot motor means scorched piston walls and warpped heads. Meaning around $1400 in repairs if not more. If you can find the leak, I should be able to help you with the process of fixing/replacing neccesary parts. If it's simple enough, you should only need basic hand tools.
