Question about Ford Aerostar

I have a knocking noise, in the bottom of the motor. The lowest round thing, with the belt attach to it. The noise comes and goes, but its getting worse. It started after the last oil change, 4 weeks ago. Regards Wendy

Sorry to say but it sounds like your rod's are knocking, This is the bottom pully underneth the water pump. But it may not be to bad yet"hope", .It could be your oil pump or filter is not working , This will cause a Knock from underneth motor. May be you need to check this out first. And you may add some Engine restore may help last a little longer if not to far gone.Best of luck to you, if i can help anyway just let me know. Remember to get a sec. opinion befor any major work done on price.

This sounds like the crankshaft vibration dampener is coming apart it is what the pulley that the belt runs over is bolted to, they knock like crazy, common issue on some Ford models.

My car tried to cut of going down highway. Engine light came on flashing. losing power & something is knocking in the motor.Tried to read the code. What could be wrong.

Unless that timing belt has come apart, it could be any number of things causing a noise like this. Is it smoking or missing/skipping ?

My 96 chrysler lhs has a knocking/rattleing sound coming from the bottom engine and as you push down on the gas the faster you drive the louder it rattles

if the noise is coming from the bottom end of the motor then you have either bad connecting rod bearings or bad crank bearings.if when you snap the throttle you hear a double knock then its connecting rod bearing if not then its crank bearing.a collapsed piston can sound low in the engine and its usually a dull knock noise.if you have the engine running and the noise is there and you pull off one plug wire at a time(and reconnect it after checking) and the noise goes away or mostly goes away with the wire unhooked then the cylinder that the noise changed is the cylinder that has a bad piston.

Intermittent noise not a misfire sounds internal like a rod or valve or lifter. No check engine light, car has good power. U only hear noise after car is warm and not all the time. Could it b my belts? Any...

After it's warmed up to operating temp, if it makes the noise at idle but goes away reving the engine, I would guess that a lifter has gone bad. Rod bearings as a rule knock all the time. It's hard to diagnose these things over the internet, because there are so many variables when it comes to noises.

You need to warm the car up and then while it is running, open the hood and try to pinpoint the source. lifter noise will sound like a "tick" and come from somewhere near the top. Rod bearings will sound like a 'knock" and will come from the bottom of the engine.

Engine has knocking noise. What is it?

First thing to check when you hear knocking, is the oil level.
If the oil level is O,K. then listen to determine if the noise is coming from inside the engine, or from one of the components that have a belt attached to it. Both the engibe and the rotating assemblys can have knocks coming from them.

I have a 1997 Buick LeSabre. It has a light knocking . it will knock a couple of times then not at all for a long while! it seems to be coming from around one of the bottom pulleys what could it be?

Tell somebody to rev the motor and check where the problem is from, otherwise remove serpentine belt, if it's a supercharged model remove supercharged belt before, and remove the accessories belt ! tell him to start the motor a short time to see it the knock sound is there or not, if not check each pulley if there's any loose or strange noise while turning them !

There is no diagram for replacing my broken serpentine belt on my 1996 regal 3800

On the bracket that attaches the motor mount to engine, the lowest nut and stud must be removed (can reach by removing wheel and from bottom). Then remove spacer (that goes around stud), install belt then reinstall spacer, stud and nut.
