Remove the belt with the help of a lever. first insert the lever between the belt and the compressor and then turn the belt so tat u can free the belt from the compressor by applying some force in the lever. If u find difficult to rotate the belt then remove the spark plug then rotate the belt u ll be able to rotate it easily so tat u can remove the belt.

Siezed up a/c compressor

Usually pretty hard to find to get the right one. There might be one that fits your Stratus if a model was produced that had your same engine but without air conditioning. But keep in mind that that other model may have the other belt-driven accessories in a different location on the engine than yours. So the belt may or may not fit.

An alternative is to buy an "A/C Delete Pulley and Bracket" and install that in place of your compressor. It's just a free wheeling pulley set-up, then you can use the same belt without having to find a replacement size. Some company makes them, they probably have an application for the Stratus.

My belt is sqealing and i have been told maybe i should disconnect the ac as it may be ceasing..how do i do that

When the A/C is not being used, the A/C compressor pulley should be free wheeling. So disconnecting the A/C will not help. Pull the belt off and spin the A/C pulley by hand. If it turns freely, and no noise, the problem is elsewhere. Check the pulley on the alternator and the other pulleys. If all appear and sound okay, try a new belt.
If the squealing only happens when the A/C is used, it could be a bad compressor, but again, the pulley should be free wheeling when A/C is turned off. If it is not free wheeling, disconnecting won't make any difference-you will have to replace the compressor.

My 2000 alero makes a screeching sound when i turn on ac does anyone know what it could be?

Most probable cause is the belt slipping on the compressor pulley, either from being too loose or A/C compressor may be starting to lock up. The belt running your A/C compressor nromaly free spins on the pulley/bearing assy. when you engage the A/C the clutch assembly lock in against the pulley which engages the compressor. It is possible the the needed tension from your belt it too loose to spin the compressor when locked engaged or the compressor may be locking up. I would start by checking the belt tension if it has a manual adjustment and is not a serpentine belt with an auto tensioner.

Belt broke in expedition ac compresser locked

If the compressor is locked and the belt is turning free on the pulley your good if the the clutch is bad to then you can't get by with just a bely just take your hand and see if the pulley turns free if it does your good to go with just the belt.

How do I replace the altenator belt on a 1996 Nissan Maxima?

Just loosen up the BOLT in the alternator, the one that holds the bracket, and u can move/slide the ALTERNATOR assembly. If the A/C compressor belt is blocking the removal of belt, loosen up the compressor and slide it to free up the belt! Now u could replace the alternator belt!
Installing will be easier!

Ford f25 1991 the heater belt starts smoking when turn on. We do not use the air conditioner

I would take off the belt and check each pulley for free movement when the car is off. For example, if there is an air pump, it should turn freely. Or, if the alternator pulley is disconnected from the belt, it should turn relatively freely.

Squealing,I have new belts and alternator.

Squealing is associated with belt slippage. 1) ensure that the belt is tight - at the longest distance between two pulleys it should be possible to twist the belt by about 90 degrees only. 2) with the engine running check funder the hood or the free running of the pulleys. a) Ask a colleague to engage the power steering from lock to lock and see if the power steering pump pulley does not cause slippage. b) set the air con to low and watch what happens when the compressor pump solenoid engages. If the belt begins to slip on the air con compressor pulley it is likely that the compressor is beginning to fail by seizing up. In that event preserve the belt simply switch the air con off and pray for cooler weather until the compressor can be overhauled.

That is what it sounds like. Try to take off the belt and see how free the compressor turns.

I have a 2000 plymouth voyager mini van v6 3.3 l . the air compressor locked up broke belt. i am looking for a diagram to replace belt. also can i bypass the compressor by using a belt for a model that...

There should be a diagram under the hood. If not go to your local auto parts house and ask for them to help. They will. Yes you can bypass the AC compressor by getting a belt for a model with out air but you may or may not have to modify the pullys by adding a idler pully if the set up will allow. I would recomend calling a chrysler dealer and asking them they should be able to tell you and it is free. You can't beat free
