1993 Acura - intermittent fuel pump operation (no start)

Fuel pump operation appears intermittent during start cycle - when key turned on fuel pump relay closes and runs pump for brief time then opens. Sometimes fuel pump does not run while crankng and engine will not start. No intermittent cutout problems once running I am having the same problem, is there any difference between our cars aside from the obviouse? Are there any pictures or diagrams for this relay? I looked under the dash and it is a wired mess, it's hard to tell which one it is. There are a couple of them, and all the labels are worn.

I thing it is definitely the fuel relay. I had the same problem. The relay is quite big and it is located and bolted under the dash on the driver side, brown in color. You can't miss it.

The basic operation of E.F.I systems
The fuel pump will only run approx 2 to 10 seconds after ignition is turned on while engine is not running and then waits until it receives signal from the ECU (Computer) that the engine is rotating, Therefore the problem you are experiencing could be a little more complicated to diagnose with limited information I have to work with.
I would start with fuel pump relay, to check it doesn't have intermittent fault, although I'm not sure where it is located.
Try to check the one that clicks in engine bay/ or fuse compartment when ignition switch is turned to the "on" position.

Have you looked at fuel pump and fuel filter? Turn key to first position and have someone near fuel tank. They should hear the pump cycle.

1993 acura LS won't start when i turn the key

It may be because the engine is not getting all the fuel it needs when the tank is low due to a faulty fuel pump or fuel injectors. More diagnostic tools for car @http://www.obd2express.co.uk

No fuel pressure on 1993 Dodge Dakota, How do I check the fuel pump? I cannot hear it run.

If you cannot hear the fuel pump prime up when you turn the key to on there is a fault with your fuel pump. check the fuse in the fuse relay box and the 2 wired connections on the fuel pump, if still no good than replace the fuel pump

Mom's 2001 Taurus SES has

Usually with heat issues, electrical components are affected. It may be fuel pump relay, found in the relay box under the hood. CHeck also if you have spark when this happens during start. If there is no spark your ignition system may be faulty. Inspect first the hi tension wire for loose connections. A bad distributor means no or intermittent signal will be detected by the computer from it and in turn it will not activate the fuel pump. It could be either one of the said issues or both may be the cause.

I have an 2006 h3 . problem is that every once in a while it does not start , cranks but no start , i do not hear the fuel pump when you first turn the key , if i leave it for about half an hour then it...

Wow... My 2006 H3 has similar intermittent starting problems. I've noticed the starter seems to "run on" for a second or two...after returning the ignition key to off. It's' happened during cold start-ups.... and at normal operating temperatures. I couldnt find much information on it but since the ignition system appears to reset itself after 20 or 30 minutes.... I'm swaying towards checking the ohms resistance of the ignition key chip and its relationship to the fuel shutoff circuit managed by the security system. I'll let you know how it goes.... wyatt
