Question about Land Rover LR3

1 Answer

I need an electrical diagram for the air suspension on a UK model, 2006 Discovery 3. I have an issue with the front valve block wiring. Code indicates issue with "Front left valve" and I need to know if this valve coil is associated with the "Black/Green and Black /Yellow" cores at the plug on the front valve block.

Thanks for the comments, I am refering to only 2 wires which are both black with coloured stripes on them. It's not 3 different coloured wires.

  • Grant Morrison Apr 16, 2011

The issue is now fixed, the wires have been traced and the broken wire replaced.
The 2 wires colours are as I stated in the original question, Black with a yellow stripe (Black/Yellow) and Black with a Green stripe (Black/Green).

Assistance No longer required, resolved it myself.

Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome to the site.Chunx, the Rover should be the yellow wire to the coil. Black is associated with ground wires and the green wires are usually associated with the brakes on the Land Rover.

How do i get the on bored compressor to work on my 2003 Hummer H2

There is a lot involved in is air ride suspension system ! A 60a Fuse in the under hood fuse block Marked VSES / ECAS .This is the power for the compressor . There is a air suspension control module , Ride height switch , Fuse in the I / P fuse block 4 WD 15a supply's B+ to ride height switch . There is a electronically controlled air suspension relay that the control module energizes to send power to turn on the compressor.

This system can an will store DTC"S in the control module !
Diagnostic Starting Point - Air Suspension
Begin the system diagnosis with the Diagnostic System Check - Air Suspension . The Diagnostic System Check will provide the following information:
The identification of the control module(s) which command the system.

The identification of any stored diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) and their status.

The use of the Diagnostic System Check will identify the correct procedure for diagnosing the system and where the procedure is located.
If you don't know about this stuff , I strongly suggest you take it to a repair shop ! Do you know about electrical circuits , relay's fuse's ? Do you know how to use a volt meter, read a wiring diagram. The first thing to do would be hook up a scan tool ,not a code reader. This system can set several DTC'S -diagnostic trouble codes.
DTC B2795 DTC C0563 DTC C0569 DTC C0626 DTC C0631 DTC C0660 DTC C0696 DTC C0702 DTC C0707 DTC C0711 DTC C0712 DTC C0713 DTC C0716 DTC C0717
You need to be able to test for B+ at different points in the wiring !

Wheres my air pump suspension valve

It doesn't work that way. The valve block that controls the ride height is driven by an on-board compressor and governed by a computer. You will need to go to a Land Rover specialist. From the sound of it, you probably have a leaking line or maybe a damaged air spring. I doubt it is anything more serious

Air suspension default line

unusual for only one corner to be out, the common problems are, air leaks, between valve block and suspension unit, ride level sensors, normally the clamp on the suspension corrodes and allows the sensor to float,it sounds like a air leak on that corner to me. you can buy a leak detection spray to help find the leak. the pump is also troublesome. located front bumper liner lh, but that would affect the whole system, I would check the plastic pipe is ok from the valve block to the suspension unit first, then get the fault codes out of the air suspension module, the valve block is in the boot spare wheel well. hope this helps.

Could well be a fueling issue, best to change the filters and try it again. If it's a TD5, the throttle potentiometer can go faulty and needs checking.
Your suspension issue will probably be a faulty air bag or valve block, and if you don't sort it your compressor will give up also. Check the bags with some soapy liquid and see if there are any bubbles. Typically this comes from the very top. Park on level ground, put the vehicle in extended mode and carefully apply the liquid to see.

Discovery has started to drop on wheels at the back

Well , Your rig has an air ride suspension. The fix may be simple. A loose air line. Expensive , The compressor, the air bags or control valve.
There is available an after-market non air suspension kit.
Sorry ---- other than the loose air lines it get's spendy. I do not know the prices.

Tell me how the rear suspension works. the rear

There is a compressor underneath the car on the passenger side (RHD) which inflates two rubber suspension bags on the rear axle. This is controlled by the SLABS ECU and a pair of height sensors on the rear trailing arms.
You probably have two failed bags, and may now also have a knackered compressor if it's not managing to inflate it due to it having been working overtime!
Sometimes you can have issues due to the valve block inside the compressor housing also.
Bags are ~ £100 each, height sensors are ~£35 each, valve block is iirc about £100-£200, and the compressor is £300-400.
Bags/sensors can be DIY'd easily with the right tools.

Rear suspension has jack up and won't lower on

Possibly the height sensors or valve block at fault. Or a compressor failure. May need to be put on the diagnostics machine to check.
