Let the car run for about 10 minutes. You have to crawl under the car and locate the hex bolt on the transmission. You will need a 5 millimeter hex to unscrew it. If fluid comes out when you unscrew the hex bolt, then you are fine. If not then you need to top it off. Use LRN402 transmission fluid.

How do I fill my transmission fluid on a 2002 land rover freelander

The olny way is through the dip stick with out transmission service .But its 10 years old . Its time to take it to a transmission shop and let them change the filters and flush the system now and it will save you later . Its like 100.00 dollarts and well worth it because they can head off major problems at the pass before it realy costs you money .Good luck with it

Is it true that there is no dipstick?

No such thing as "dipstick" on the Freelander.
Filler plug is located on top of the transmission next to two electrical connectors.
Level plug is located on the bottom of the transmission, next to the selector cable.
Use 5mm allen wrench to remove it, and fill the transmission fluid till it starts dripping from the level plug.
BE CAREFUL WHEN LOCATING LEVEL PLUG, WILL DAMAGE THE TRANSMISSION IF REMOVE THE "WRONG" BOLT.

Transmission level inspection 2002 freelander

I am not sure on Land Rovers but to check automatic transmission fluid the car needs to be running, warmed up, and on level ground. Search the rear sides of the engine bay for a dipstick that usually has an orange or red handle on it. Once you find it the fluid should be red, if it is you have the right dipstick. Yellow handles are usually oil dipsticks so be careful. Your user manual in the glove box should have pictures of where its located.
