Question about 1992 Ford Tempo
There is a very good posibility that the alternator is not charging. The easiest way for a do-it-yourselfer to check this is to get a voltmeter/multi-tester and check for voltage at the battery terminals before and after starting the engine.
Set the voltemeter to the 20 volt setting (or higher). At rest, the battery should register at least 12.5 volts. If the battery reads less than 12.5 volts, it might have a dead cell and may need replacing. Is it more than 4 years old? Replace it. It's due.
Battery reads at least 12.5 volts? Proceed to the next step.
Start the engine. The voltmeter reading should now jump up to anywhere between 13.8 volts to 15 volts. This indicates that the alternator is charging the battery and the battery light on the instrument panel should be off.
Getting a good reading but the light is still on?
Turn off the engine. Check for any loose wires/connectors to the alternator. If the alternator has a "field" wire (a small separate wire by itself), make sure it is connected properly to the single prong at the back of the alternator.
Removing a battery cable with the engine running was a viable charging system test back in the day; it is not recommended for computer-equipped cars such as yours inasmuch as the ignition system relies on the battery to "complete" the ignition circuit.
I hope this helped,
Have a great day!!!

Have to test battery to see if its getting voltage from alternator. put voltmeter on battery while car is running give it a little gas 2500rpm and check voltage should be 13 or over if not alternator is bad, if it is then shut car remove battery and take to auto store have them load test battery, or if u have a load tester , charge battery until full charge, connect tester and hit load switch for a couple of seconds , if it falls to red area then battery has a bad cell.
