Question about Ford F-150

1 Answer

I have a 03 Ford F150. My A/C unit was only blowing air through the defrost and I found a guy on eBay to fix it. I mailed the unit to him and he fixed the problem but now it only works on high! I can't turn it down or off. It does turn off when I turn the truck off. Any ideas on what the problem could be? Do you think the man who fixed the vent problem could have caused this problem? (I didn't have this problem before.) Thanks.

I mailed him the entire head unit. He said he replaced the board that controls the vacuums that go to the vents and for me to check my resistor and if it is good then he will replace the board again. I don't know how to test it but if it was good before I took out the head unit shouldn't it still be good?

What all did you mail him? if it won't turn off the problem either lies with the blower motor or the in dash switch.

    Blower Motor Resistor:
Remove the Blower Motor Resistor screws & remove the Blower Motor Resitor.
Three resistance elements are mounted on the resistor board to provide four A/C blower motor speeds.

Depending on the heater blower motor switch position, series resistance is added or bypassed in the A/C blower motor circuit to decrease or increase A/C blower motor speed.

Should be Voltage on the Orange / Black wire with Key on & switch on high

have to admit i stole this info from another website but hope it helps anyway good luck

Dustin, Sound like vacuum loss to position switch. Defrost is the default position when vacuum is lost in vent control system. Check any and all vacuum lines and connections under hood first, especially any that run through firewall. Check the attached links, instruction and guides, Good luck

My 03 Ford ranger's air conditioner blow cold air but it will only blow on defrost, it wont blow out of the vents

your controls for floor, vent.defrost ect. is in default mode due to a loss of vacuum.
you need to inspect vacuum lines for being lose cracked,or disconnected.hose will run from engine
intake manifold through firewall into the dash.i'd start at intake manifold looking for bad hose

Air conditioner in my 1999 Ford f-150 only blows out the defrost

Look around under the hood for a broken or dislodged vacuum hose. The door that directs the air flow is controlled by vacuum and after 10 years those hoses get brittle.

Air conditioning blows through defrost vents only

AC blows where you have your control switch set,if it only comes out your defroster have the vacuum check at the blend air doors or if you have a faulty heater control unit.

Why does the ac on my 2003 ford f150 blow through the defroster

Most likely it is a vacuum problem. That's what controls the air flow flaps.

The heating unit blows air from defroster and floor only

defrost is a default if vaccum is lost from engine.. check behind batt in engine comp to see if batt has been leaking. this can cause the acid to drip on small black vacc lines from engine and cause a leak in the vacc system causing it to only blow in defrost . you can fix by cutting damagged vaccumm line and install a small rubber hose over cut ends .. the vaccum lines run between batt and fire wall

Heater and ac problem

You have a vacuum leak.Start at the black vacuum line that goes from under the hood on the right or passenger side to the interior of vehicle.
Defrost is the default postion no vacuum.

03 f150 heat only comes out defrost

You have a vacuum leak. Defrost is the default postion (no vacuum). Since it is working correctly in the ac postion I would suspect the problem is at the floor/panel door. This one is located on the drivers side of the heater box just to the right of the accelerator pedal.

Heater stopped blowing in all settings, except defrost.

Here's a link that may shine some light on it for you. I'd probably try to get to the spot where electrical connections are first, and try removing it, cleaning all contacts etc, & re-try.
