Question about Mercedes-Benz E-Class

1 Answer

Hi, I am a Sri Lankan and drive a 1995 Mercedes E300 Diesel. Since a few days ago the Air Condition stopped working when the car was idling in traffic. But as soon as the car starts to move the Aircon blows cold air and starts working. I checked the outside radiator/condenser Aircon fan to see whether it works and found that it normally works. However I couldn't get down in traffic to check whether it has stopped functioning when the problem came. The outside air temperature this time of the year in SL is 32C. What do you think the problem is? Any simple solution? Thanks, Dumms.

Low on freon the 1st place to check if you have a manifold gage check it other wise add a small can of freon you can get at auto parts store..

    Hi Ultrat,

My apologies for the late reply and thanks for your post.

The A/C problem was not related to low freon.

I managed to narrow it down to a bad contact in the Radiator Fan Fuse.

Since the Fan is a variable speed one, during high outside temperature the fan needs to work at a higher rpm - means higher current. But due to dust and other sediments the contacts were not clean. So since higher current couldn't be drawn by the fan, it stops causing the A/C to fail.

I cleaned the fuses and the contacts with a contact cleaner and now the A/C is working as usual without any problems.

Let me know whether this works for others with this problem.

    Thanks again for your post.

Only cold air from my heater on e300 turbo diesel

The Most common Cause for your Heat to stop blowing, is low engine coolant. If there is not enough coolant in your system, your heater coil will not function. Check the level of your Engine coolant.

1995 e300 d auto transmision

This is not that unusual for Mercedes cars of these years.
Try having the transmission oil filter replaced, and fresh fluid put in.
This may help some, but this may be something which comes with wear and tear.
Unless of course you are willing to spend a lot of money to replace the transmission.

Use on of those quick freon kits that come with the fill tube and gauge. It sounds like you have a slow leak and on a hot day there is enough pressure in the system to trip the switch. If thats not the problem check the wiring coming from the switch. The switch is probably near the filter/dryer. Thats the metal canister that sweats liquid on a hot day.
