Question about 1990 Chevrolet Celebrity

1 Answer

1990 Celebrity Wagon (Eurosport) 3.1 V6 Running fine. Drove approximately 8-10 miles to Walmart. Parked and was inside for 10 mins. When I came out it turned over great but would not start. Pulled plug wire and inserted a bolt I had in the car into the plug boot. No arc. I have been told and read on the internet to suspect the crankshaft position sensor, the coil pack, and the ignition module. (are the last 2 the same thing?) What is my next step?

The ignition module and the coil pack are not the same thing .. i think the coil pack is mounted on the front side of the engine nearest the radiator it might have three separate coils or they maybe all be in one pack . the ignition module is mounted under the coil pack . i would look at the ignition module 1st if the coil are separate and the crank sensor before i would replace the coils . a lot of these cars suffer from heat soak . which means when they get hot and some of the circuits open and cause a no spark condition . which is what the ignition module do a lot .

Update. It does have 3 coils. I took the ign module to Advance Auto and they checked it like 5 times. It showed good. I don't think all 3 coils would go bad together, so I got a CPS.
New problem - The old one is falling apart. The plastic just crumbles. Ran out of daylight. Any ideas for getting it out of the block? The extraction direction is seems to be about 1 o'clock.

Should have added that the car started right up whe I got home. So definately a heat related issue.

96 Benz ran out of gas other day, got it filled up & drove home (20 miles). Next day drove about 40 miles, left car running in park for about 15 min, when I left car was stalling like it was running o

You never leave a car running, as it will
overheat the Exhaust Converter
When you run out of fuel, you sometimes
ruin the Fuel Pump
It depends on gas to lubricate it,as strange as it sounds
Check fuel pressure & volume at the motor with a gauge

Did the old battery need replacing , and or did the same thing ???? If yes then maybe its your altenator , take it up to auto zone and have it tested free of charge!!!! and if its good get a second opinion from another mechanic, or take out your amp and subwoofers =)

Chevrolet celebrity Climate controls Problem

You cannot stop the outside air from coming in while driving. Vehicles equipped with A/C draws in outside air while driving and directs the airflow through the floor vents...even with the switch in the off position. This is normal and does not indicate a problem.

Sounds like you have a small bit of dirt or grit in the fuel system when accelerating it is drawn with enough force to cut off the fuel supply then is released when engine at Idle.
1 run liquid fuel line/injector cleaner in 1 tank
2 check fuel lines for debris
3 change fuel filters
4 have fuel tank flushed
here is trouble shooting order less expense to greater.

No Power sometime, Engine Light is Flashing

If fuel filter hasn't been done lately I would start there & if you can, have fuel pressure tested while your at it. You may have tired fuel pump but pressure test will confirm. If you recently filled up somewhere different last time you got gas, I'd also try some "Heet" or similar just incase you got a tank full with some water in it.
