Question about 1997 Isuzu Hombre

1 Answer

Clutch problem? Have 1997 Isuzu Hombre Extented Cab 2.2l w/ 5speed manual. Will not go into gear at idle speed. Only way to get into gear is to set parking brake and depress clutch. Once you release parking brake, truck jerks forward or backward with clutch still depressed until it chokes out. Thanks.

Verify your master and slave clutch cylinders. Check for leaks if so, replace both the slave and master cylinder.

1996 Isuzu hombre 2.2 manual trans is stuck in gear have removed the stick and put it in neutral and still stuck and stalls when clutch is let out

so , it seems the engine does start in gear, with clutch depressed.
or cranks , brakes off, and car does not move. with clutch depressed, if yes, then the clutch is not 100% seized.
we now know the trans is in neutral (could be siezed check its Gear lub levels?)

I can not decode, stuck in gear. elaborate that.
nor "
"still stuck"
the only clue here, is
"stalls when clutch is let out."

this last statement makes me presume you depressed the clutch
then turn the key to start, it started
and when you let the clutch out, the engine stalls
does it do that rear wheels (2wd mode) ? lift driving wheels off the ground.... (these proves engine not weak)
yes, transmission is sized.
no, then it is stuck in gear.

1997 Isuzu hombre NO movement when into gear, left IT in first gear let UP off the clutch and the truck didn't jump or CUT off. . What's wrong with it?

MT trans. got it. (said clutch let up.. is the clue)
engine is running right? (sorry)
and you shift to all gears, and car does not move, RIGHT?

if the clutch slips and car will not move in ALL gears.
the clutch is bad, or if a cable clutch, never setting free play on cable is the cause,... done 100s.
or if hydraulic actuated clutch pedal (im too lazy to look)
then if it fails the car can only moved if you start engine in gear.
see?
please post all steps.
i get in car,
i start engine in neutral. (did you) or start in gear with clutch to floor.?
i then select all gears, and release clutch and car will not move.
like that.... and win. (i can diagnose any clutch, ive wrecked many racing, so.... see all horrors) and fixed them by self. all.

if you can only move car , starting engine in gear.?
that is bad clutch cable or actuator (slave or master cylinder)

is the clutch locked all times, or slips all the time.
see? only that need be said.
and 10 other symptoms. (chatters, noises, grabs, etc)

1997 isuzu truck stalls when a/c on

Could be a problem with the compressor, or the idle air control valve that controls idle speed.

My 97 Hombre with 2.2 L 4 cyl, all of a sudden

probably the throttle position sensor, but also could have jumped time.i would take the T.P.S. out and check the resistance,i am not sure what the correct resistance is for that model but you can find out at the parts store.

Clutch friction is middle ways instead of grabbing from floor.

should be auto adjusting, clutch is probably going out, you will notice it beginning to slip in high gear as it wears out more

2nd gear clutching

STOP Downshifting!
STOP Forcing gear change, watch the Engine RPMs and shift accordingly, HOMBRE's are as good as the operator's. Hombre's have dash shift indicators which illuminate when it's time to 'shift' and not before, This has nothing to do with gear oil either. If you've drained it, you best fill it immediately and make sure it's ample level. The heat these gears sustain in is inceredible, cooling lubricant is essential. Here's a tip, while engine is OFF, ignition key is engaged, dash is illuminated, depress clutch peddle, keep it depressed and walk through all gears with gear shift, shifting should be smooth and unpeded, including reverse. If resistance is experienced at one or more gears, gear alignment is off as a result of inproper gear shifting while driving. Continue to drive vehicle just shift slower until clutch needs replacement then do an entire drive shaft upgrade. It worth it, it's great truck.
