Where are the check points on the alternator to check for 14 volts

Main power stud on back side of alternator. Most charging systems put out 13.4-13.8 volts.
Some newer cars can sense power demand and can command less or more amperage but the 13+ volts are a constant.

If the voltage is lower check the condition of the battery and conectors.
If they are corroded the alt. has to work that much harder.

Battery in 1993 Mercury Villager discharged. How can power be restored?

it needs to be put on a charger and charged until you have about 12.6 volts at the battery terminals then have it load tested to check the condition of the battery. it may need to be replaced or you may have a voltage draw on the system, something drawing voltage that shouldn`t be. you don`t say how old the battery is so it could be a bad cell in the battery which does happen even on newer batteries.

Battery dead - car will not start or be jumped started

Change the battery. Newer batteries sometimes go all at once, and are so dead even a jump start won't work. It has happened to me twice. Once you put in the new battery check the alt output with a volt meter should read about 14.5 volts at the battery. If it does problem solved just reset the clock, radio etc.

My saab 9-3 2003 Turbo does not charge the battery (it reads 11.3V when the engine is running and if I disconnect any of the two wires to the battery the engine dies), but the battery dies after a few...

The Superior Voltage warning is the Voltmeter. You normally have 13.2 to 13.6 Volts as the stand alone Voltage. Charging can reach a maximum of about 14.2 Volts. When you have less than 12 Volt you have a problem.

If you are at idle, with many things turned on, you can fall to an 11 something Voltage but it should quickly climb as RPM increases.

Your Regulator is not allowing the Alternator to work or the Alternator is just not putting out. Most newer Alternators have a built-in regulator. Most are not serviceable. The output can be checked on the car, usually free, at Autozone, Advance, or Oreilys.

How can i know if my voltage regulator is working, Im not getting any of my lights to work

quick check is to remove a battery cable while the motor's running. If the motor stays running when you pull off the battery cable, the charging system is functioning properly, if it dies then there is a problem with the charging system. Don't leave it off long, as this test is stressful to the circuit. You can test the voltage regulator by putting a volt meter across the battery posts to verify voltage. A fully charged 12 Volt battery should show slightly above 12 volts DC. With the engine running and the volt meter hooked to the battery, the charging system should be showing around 13.8 volts DC.

Skoda Fabia 2004 1.4 tdi 75 bhp. Very sluggish to turn over, had new battery and alternator but still same. Alternator only puts outs 12.3 volts on tickover but no charging liight is on?

Does the battery light work? Do you trust this meter? If this is like most newer cars then the Alternators output voltage is computer controlled, you need the dealer to diagnose the issue and replace the computer is needed, it is a very expensive part so don't just throw one in there.

When I take my battery cables loose on my car with the running the car cuts off and I just bought a new alternator what could the problem be

That trick worked on older cars, but newer ones have computers and relays that need a constant voltage feed. If you want to check your alternator output, use a miltimeter to check battery voltage with car running (and battery connected) should get between 13.2 and 14 volts DC. No higher than 14 volts or it will burn up the battery and possibly other components.
