I assume you are asking about an automatic. See the Automatic Transmission Fluid Level in this
section of the manual: http://www.ncttora.com/fsm/1993/maintenance/3generalm.pdf

Check transmission fluid

The most common transmission problem on a Nissan pickup is operating the truck with the transmission fluid low. Nissan owners needs to pull the dip-stick and see if the level is low. The fluid level must be checked when the truck engine is idling. Nissan pickup owners also need to look at the color of the fluid and see if it needs to be changed or just leveled off. The color must be transparent and not black or brownish in color. The owner must also smell the transmission fluid to see if the fluid smells burnt. If the transmission fluid smells burnt, then the transmission fluid must be changed as soon as possible. Over-filling the transmission fluid level also creates Nissan pickup transmission problems.

Changed transmission filter now truck wont go into gear. If I used ATF transmission fluid could that be the problem

it is possible if you used t he wrong fluid type than what was recommended, or missing the additive that was supposed to be in there, some vehicles require a special additive that is supposed to go into the trans fluid, when you replace the fluid. Contact the dealer about what fluid type is recommended abd if there is any additive that needs to go into the trans as well

Sir, i have a 1991 ford pickup ranger. Is it hard to put transmission fluid into this pickup doing it myself. What do i need and what kind of fluid do I need. Mrs Jenkins. marjen09@windstream.net

if this is an automatic transmission you just put the fluid down the dipstick tube you will need a transmission funal to do this and the fluid is Dextron II.

if this truck has a manual transmission you will need to jack the truck up and put on jack stands and go under truck and on the right side of the transmission you will see a check plug that has a square head remove the plug and fill with 80w-90 gear lube till it starts coming out the check hole.

My 1994 Ford Explorer Limited 4X4 had a really bad leak after driving it and all the transmission fluid drained out when i put the vehicle in gear. Is that the front seal? maybe the water pump?

If your having to add transmission fluid and not coolant, then the water pump is ok, fill with transmission fluid look under truck, if fluid is coming out of between engine and transmission housing, then bad front transmission seal.

Will not shift into 3rd until 55mph its an automatic what is possible cause?

Check your auto transmission levels. Slow, often jerky, gear shifting is often accompanied by a bit of a jolt when putting it into drive from park or neutral. When fluids are low the torque converter impeller has to work harder to get pressure up and therefore it is slower at shifting to the next gear . Low transmission fluids also lead to poor fuel consumption.

I need to know what kind of transmission fluid to put in a 1994 Nissan pickup with an automatic transmission and 2.4 liter engine.

Check you owner's manual. Igf you no longer have it then call a nissan dealer. Last resort is to go to an auto parts store and they should be able to help you. You just need to be careful . If they do noyt look it up then I would go somewhere else and ask the question again. If you get the same answer at two or more places then you should be good to go.
