I believe that the sunfires' usually need shims for the starter. you may want to ask at the parts store.

I'm guessing this vehicle has a manual transmission if you are trying to push start it. Only reason for it to stop dead is if the engine won't turn. See if you can turn engine by hand at front of engine with a socket & ratchet. Also try removing serpentine belt- may have seized alternator, ac compressor ect. stopping engine from turning. do not believe the flywheel could be cause of problem.

Pontiac sunfire starter issues?

Either your solenoid is sticking or your key switch is bad. Test by disconnecting the positive line to the starter (cover the connector with electrical tape to be sure it doesn't contact the chassis), then test for voltage at the S connector on the solenoid. If there is no voltage at the S connector with the key ON (not just when it is moved to START), replace the solenoid. If there is voltage at the S connector with the just the key ON, your ignition switch has failed and needs to be replaced.

if the car is a stick and it stops right away when u push it, theres a chance that the engine might have seized up. I would take a socket and rachet put it on the harmonic balancer on bottom of engine and see if you can turn that engine over by hand, Its worth a try.

My car died, now wont start what could be the problem. Its a 1997 pontiac sunfire.

If it is cranking and won't start, it could be many things. Check to see if your engine is getting fuel. If it is doing nothing, check the battery and the starter. Make sure your fuel pump is kicking on. You can also spray engine starter in the intake. If it starts and dies, you have a fuel problem. Check for fuses and relays to. Try all the simple test first. It will save you time and money. If car is getting fuel, it is probably a problem with the ignition system. The best way to look is to have your car coded. This test will lead you to the right path. Hope this helps.

Sunfire gt 97 2.4L. car won't start, small

sounds like a starter solenoid went bad which it is easier to replace the whole starter assembly then just the solenoid and you can get one with a LLT Limited Life Time warranty.

I have a 1997 pontiac sunfirebird car and it will not start. the battery has been replaced and so has the starter. can you help me?

It is probably the Passlock sysem, Put the key in the ignition in the off position for about 10 minutes and then try and start it. If it still will not work, take it to the mechanic, It may need to be replaced like mine did.

Hope this Helps.
