How do i change a fan belt on a 2000 chevy silverado

First thing's first; make sure that the routing diagram is still on the pickup. There's a sticker on the front under the hood that describes the way that the belt goes on. If you can't read it, then draw a diagram of how the current belt goes BEFORE you remove it. Next, look at the AC belt. It's a separate belt that is down towards the bottom. If it needs replacing, now is the time, because you have to take the main belt off in order to do so. Next, find the tensioner. If you're not sure which pulley it is, look for a black plastic pulley. If you see more than one, yank on the fan belt and see which one moves laterally. Put a box end wrench or a ratchet and socket on the bolt in the middle of the pulley. It should move clockwise(otherwise you're removing the bolt). This will allow the belt to loosen. While it is loose, slip the belt off the water pump pulley. This is the smooth black pulley, about 4-5" in diameter. Once you have this complete, you can release the pressure on the idler pulley, and remove the belt. Next, route the new belt, and put it on in the same way that you removed the old one. That's it!

The fan clutch or belt to it, is making a screeching noise and then stops after a few minutes. We've tried everything to get it to stop. What lshould we do?

The bearings in the fan clutch, or idler pulley may be going out, which would create extra resistance. This would cause the belt to squeal until everything is moving like it should. Try to lube the bearings, and put some belt stop squeal spray on the belt ridges. If this doesn't help, take the belt off and find which pulley is causing the extra resistance.

How to remove fan assembly and water pump on 1999 silverado v8?

Take off the upper half of the fan shroud by removing the 13mm bolts on the top and sides of the shroud. You want to remove the nuts that secure the nuts that hold the pulley to the pump by inserting down from the top a long flathead screwdriver into the space between two of the nuts and lock the pulley in place by prying to the right. Now you can use a box end wrench (also known as a closed end wrench or combo wrench) to loosen the nuts. You can do this with or without the belt on. I recommend leaving the belt on so the pulley has some tension against it and it is easier to control. if you have already removed the belt, it's not worth it to put it back on. Be careful not to damage the radiator fins when you actually remove the fan and pulley.

How to replace my belt on my alternator on a 1990

loosen the lock bolt & nut on your alternator don't forget the one underneath, back off the tension remve the belt off the pulley then work it off over the fan you will find that hard but it can be done, put the new belt on in reverse order.

Ps let the motor cooldown first or wear leather gloves to save from burns.

1990 chevy silverado v8 overheating. Which way are the water pump and belts supposed to go? I've replaced the radiator, thermostat, senors. At this point, not sure what else to do. Anys ideas? Seems like...

Fan should turn clockwise when viewed from the front, there should be a diagram on the radiator shroud or front cowl showing the belt routing.
I'd check the fan clutch, if that's working the impeller has fallen off of your water pump, it happens.

How do you replace the belt

If the Diagram for the routing is still on the car use that, if not take a minute and draw the front of the engine out. There is a tensioner on there somewhere if it's a Serpt belt, usually on the passenger side, use a serp belt tool and give the belt some slack, slide it off the idler pulley and then remove the belt, if it has electric fans it'll come right out, if it has a hard fan with a clutch it might be routed around it, just take a second and take it out, putting the new one in is just a reverse of this procedure. This is a little old of a vehicle for me to be directly familiar with as I work at a dealership and mostly only see newer cars.
