Look away from the oil. You most likely have a problem with fuel ignition or perhapse a head gasket gone out. Start with new plugs, maybe coils. and if that isn't it you may have a head gasket gone. I just did the head gaskets on my libby and before i did, it was chugging like a diesel.

HHMMM if hydralic adjusters then i would suggest you add a pint of diesel and squirt of green fairy to the engine oil ,then run car around for a week till the noise stops then change the oil and filter ,use the cheap 10/40 oil from the supermarket and change it every 5000miles with a oil filter every third oil change and do not use this long life oil ,you have a build up of black gunge inside the engine caused by so called long life oils ,use the cheap one and change it often -dont think iam right then read a service manual from any car built in the 50s /60s when men were proper mechanics and women were not allowed to drive a car .

sounds like a hydraulic tappet ,try my trick as sometimes it works ,firstly add a 3 good squirts of fairy liquid to engine oil and a half litre of diesel ,has to be fairy and not a cheap brand by the way .Then run engine for a couple of days and the noise will lessen, then change oil and oil filter and use a diesel engine oil suitable for turbo diesel or petrol engines ,cheapest you can buy for this no fancy long life oil ,run engine on this oil diesel oil as it contains detergent and this will dissolve the clag inside the engine and the hydraulic tappet ,change oil 5/6000 miles and by this time it should have lost the noise ,then change oil regular max 6000 miles with a oil filter every third oil change and you shouldnt have any more probl?ems

Tapping sound, what is valve adjustment procedure?

i think this is hydraulic tappets on this vehicle so if noisy then they have gummed up is the first possibility so what you do is to add about half a pint of diesel to the oil and a good three squirts of fairy concentrated washing up liquid to the oil as well ,run for week and the noise should lessen or stop .then change the oil and filter ,and change the oil every 6000miles with a oil filter every third oil change

My car is ticking. Sounds like its coming from the valve cover gasket.

put a good squirt of wahing up liquid into engine oil and half litre of diesel ,then run a while say 300 miles or so then change oil and use turbo diesel engine oil ,now if noise stops then just change oil every 6000 miles with a oil filter every third oil change.but if noise persists then repeat with washing up liquid and diesel and leave for a longer period ,your hydraulic tappets are gummed up from not changing the oil regular ,never mind these so called long life oils ---this is what happens when oil is not changed regular

hi i presume you changed the oil and filter when you did the head if so it may be the wrong rating as if i got it corect it sounds like a diesel when you start it after its been left the last thing to get oil is going to the camshaft and rockers so if the noise goes once it has been run for a minute or so and sounds ok then using a oil that is recomended by the manafacturer unless its done a high mileage then use a higher mileage oil with an oil additive STP something like it as what is proberly happening the oil running back into the sump and having to be pumped back all the way to the head . yates210456
