2000 Dodge neon starts and runs fine. But sometimes does want to start Engine cranks, but won't start

How many miles on the car? Have you checked the fuel pressure when it doesn't want to start? Do that first and then move on from there. To quickly test fuel pressure with no special equip get a can of starting fluid from the auto parts store, when it fails to start spray the fluid into the air intake of the engine well it is cranking, if it fires up then the fuel pump is likely not running on for some reason. This can be electrical in nature or just a failed electric fuel pump

Hi my Haundai accent just shut off as I made a right turn. the battery seems fine, but the plugs won't fire. What can be the problem. thanks for your help . Beverly

Hi, Beverly. I've seen this issue occur due to a defective crank sensor. Often they fail when hot and then work normally again once they've cooled off. This could also be caused by a coolant temperature sensor (or other engine management sensor) reading incorrectly. In all the cases I've mentioned, the check engine lamp being illuminated is typical.

Here's how I'd recommend approaching this:
1. Is your check engine lamp on or has it been coming on? If so, check for trouble codes. Chances are you'll have a code related to the specific cause of your problems.
2. When the engine won't start, make a not of whether the check engine lamp illuminates when you turn the ignition to the "on" position. If not, there's likely an issue preventing your engine control module (ECM) from powering on.
3. Check to see whether you have spark at the spark plugs. To do this, simply make use of an old spark plug (or purchase a new one if you desire). Remove the #1 wire from the #1 plug and install the old plug in the wire end and lay the plug on the intake manifold. While an assistant cranks the engine, observe to see whether you have spark at the plug. If not, suspect that the ECM is not seeing the information it needs to determine when to fire the coils (most notably, the crank sensor). If so, suspect an issue with the one of the sensors for the fuel injection system.

Timing belt snapped

hi from uk the cambelt timing marks for accent 1.3/1.5 petrol are as follows= the cam cog has a hole drilling between the outer toothed and the central securing bolt this hole at TDC number 1 cyl is at top central and lines up with a V cut in the cyl head at rear of cog ? the crank cog at TDC number 1 cyl is a pop mark on both the cog and on thefront face of engine quite noticable ! these line up and are at approx 12 -30 pm when viewed fit new belt from crankcog in anticlockwise ie crank then cam then tensioner HOWEVER! if you are considering just replacing belt and tensioner ? be warned this engine is an interferance engine that is to say if belt fails whilst driving there may/will most probably be damage to the valves (bent) due to contact with pistons so would advise caution and suggest compression test all cyls after fitting new belt and tensioner and before rebuild completely once valves have bent they will not contact pistons again but you will have serious missfire/s and probably back fire up inlet manifold coupled with failing to start if engine is high milage ? consider removal of cyl head and check? de coke and replace damaged or best all valves then engine will have improved performance and more milesin future hope this helps

Seems to me it's the engine coolant temperature sensor or the connecting wire to it. Some Model/Year (MY) hyundai's have TWO (2) temperature sensors.. one for the instrument panel/gauge, the other strictly used by the ECU (Engine Control Unit)... if this sensor goes bad, it sends the wrong data/signal to the ECU and this can affect engine performance.
