Question about Ford Festiva

1 Answer

We have a 93 festiva manual transmission. Where do you put the transmission oil. While changing the drive shaft (CB shaft) some of the oil leaked out, and we need to put some back in. We can not find any information about a manual transmission in the manual. We can't find a dip stick.

We have looked the entire transmission over and there is no holes or plugs anywhere on the transmission.

Hi, there is usually a plug on the side of the transmission about half way up. The plug usually has a 3/8' square hole, so you can use a regular socket ratchet to remove it. Sometimes it has a torx hole instead of a square hole. I have been looking high and low for a good Festiva transmission picture but had no luck so far. I understand the Festiva manual transmission uses Dexron 3 fluid--not gear oil. Was the fluid that leaked out purple like auto trans fluid? To refill the transmission, remove the plug and use a nozzle on the fluid bottle and also a hose, if necessary, to guide the fluid into the hole in the side. Fill until the fluid level is up to the bottom of the hole and leaks out as fast as you put it in. Put the plug back in, and that's it. I will keep looking for a good picture,so please do let me know if you find it so I can stop looking.

OK, I'm terribly sorry. I'm reading now you have to take out the speed sensor. Can you find the speed sensor and take it out? Looks like the picture below. You might need to use a hammer and screwdriver to loosen it. I guess they wanted to save money on a plug and are making you use the speed sensor as your fill port.

What causes my 1995 chevy pick up 5 speed manual transmission to not want to shift into gears after it gets warm or hot but first thing it does fine

Many internal parts could be the problem. I would replace the vacuum modulator on the passenger side of the transmission first. Near the back. Only thing with a vacuum hose to it.

Ford festiva transmission

You have a manual transmission. The synchronizers are bad. Probably a couple of bad bearings also. Get a manual and buy the parts. Save yourself atleast a $1000 labor from a garage.

1989 Ford Festiva oil leak near the crank what do i do?

The rear main seal is have to pull the engine or move the transmission back or out. Personally if you can not do the job yourself it can be expensive. I would find another car to buy.

My transmission makes noise until I depress my clutch

sounds like the main shaft bearings within the gearbox itself. i would of said the release bearing but u already changed it. the main shaft doesnt spin with the clutch pedal pressed. check for oil leaks and check the oil level in the gearbox.

Hello, I assume you mean the transmission gear oil. I have the original shop manual for the 1992 Festiva so I can answer any questions that it covers if you like. The gear oil is replaced through the speedometer cable insert, where it enters the top of the transmission. When you remove the speedometer cable, you will see two lines on the insert that screws into the hole and you fill the transmission up to the level of the top line when warm.

My 5speed manual has a leak where the drive shaft connects to the transmission. Wondering how easy of a fix is it and how to add transmission oil to make sure it doesn't dry up on on me.

you put the trans fluid into the tube that has the trans dip stick. try putting "No-Leak" for transmitions in the tube. always check the level with the trans warmed up and engin running.

Our 2001 Dodge Caravan seems to be leaking oil around drive shaft

Yes it's a bad seal and most likely the side bearing to the trans axle is bad too. Once the bearing has play, it vibrates and causes the oil to leak though the seal. Note: if one side went bad the other side is soon to follow since they have the same amount of miles on them. Might as well change both side. Good luck and hope this helps. Keep an eye on the transmission fluid level, don't want to burn out the transmission.

Wher is the refill point for a Festiva 1996 manual transmission?

If you look at the transmission, you will find a drain plug on the bottom, look for a similar plug on the side of the transmission, take out plug and if oil is at the bottom of side plug hole, trans is full, if not refill here until oil is running out of hole, reinstall plug.
