Question about 2004 Toyota Sienna

3 Answers

I want to be able to temporarily disable the traction control system on my AWD 2004 Sienna van. I know which fuses to pull, but I can't find them in the fuse panel.

There is not a TRAC OFF switch on the AWD model!

  • marauch Apr 06, 2011

Ther is not a TRAC OFF switch on the AWD model. (at least the one that I have)

  • marauch Apr 07, 2011

The button hole is on the panel, but a switch is not installed or labeled.

    Don't you agree??

  • marauch Apr 08, 2011

The Engine is the 3.3L V6

The VSC and TC functions are installed on this AWD vehicle. The icons appear briefly on the instrument display as expected during vehicle start up.

Recently when driving slowly in mud and snow the TC skid icon blinked and beeped, and the system slowed the vehicle, preventing me from powering through the mud as I wished.

The TC disable switch is not installed, a neat factory plate covers the spot.

In the owner's manual there is a reference to the "TC DISABLED" instrument panel message, but it says (two wheel drive models only).

My Honda AWD Element had a TC disable switch that was quite helpful at slow speeds.

I guess I was hoping that someone had figured out how to wire the Toyota Sienna AWD for this feature.

    Thanks

My fuse box layout is not as you suggest, but I did find my ETCS fuse.

When I pulled the fuse, nothing good happened. The motor lugged down, and belts slipped, and now my Check Engine light and VSC light are on. I hope they will clear when I drive the van.

Thanks for your help, my idea didn't seem to pan out.

  • marauch Apr 08, 2011

Not much, my problem was of my own making, and the wiring revision is apparently not feasible.

Fuses panels are placed in two locations - underneath the drivers side (you have to take the cover off the panel to access them) and underneath the hood.

If you want to temporarily disable the Traction Control System. why don't you simply turn it off? There is a "TRAC OFF" button on the dash just to the right and below the steering wheel. With the ignition ON, push this button and the "TRAC OFF" indicator in the instrument cluster will come on to let you know the traction control has been disabled.

If there is no "TRAC OFF" button, then either the button has been removed by someone or the vehicle is not equipped with traction control. The 2004 Sienna is equipped with and without VSC and with and without TRAC for both the front wheel drive and all wheel drive vehicles. Pulling fuses to disable any of these will also disable your brake system and set codes in your engine control module due to the brake system being unable to communicate.

What is it you are trying to accomplish anyway?

Just bought 2003 Aztec and the AWD is disabled how do i know if something is wrong . We could not find AWD button ? ??

AWD Disable indicator
The AWD Disable indicator is located in the instrument panel cluster. This lamp is used to inform the driver that the AWD system has been disabled and no torque will be applied to the rear wheels during a slip condition. The AWD Disable indicator is controlled by the powertrain control module via a class 2 message.
Powertrain Control Module
The powertrain control module monitors the data from the ABS controller and Rear Drive Module (RDM) for proper operating conditions. If inappropriate conditions are present the PCM commands the differential clutch pump actuator check valve closed, disabling the AWD system. The PCM also commands the AWD Disable indicator on.

How to turn off traction control on 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Alexandre, check in your owners manual for small off button on the shifter under the large engage button. If you do not want traction control on in your vehicle check your manual for traction control fuse location and remove fuse. I can not say this is a wise thing to do, because your traction control is a safety feature for your vehicle. ABS braking system will be lost if you pull the fuse also. Pulling the fuse will disable abs, traction and stability control. Check the attached links, instruction and guides, Good luck

Traction control is incorporated with the ABS system. You would have to disable the ABS as well

How do i reset my traction control

Is your trac light lit ? If so it has a problem an till it is fixed , you can't reset it. Need to have it checked for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes .
If the ABS control module detects a malfunction, it will disable TCS and will command the BCM to turn the TRAC LED Off. The driver can also disable TCS, if desired, by depressing the TRAC switch. When the driver depresses the TRAC switch, the ABS control module will disable TCS and will command the BCM to turn the TRAC LED Off.
DTC C0276 TCM Traction Control Not Allowed
DTC C0275 or C0276
The TCM sends a serial data message to the electronic brake control module (EBCM) indicating that torque reduction is temporarily not allowed.
DTC C0550
DTC C0896
The electronic brake control module (EBCM) is required to operate within a specified range of voltage to function properly. During antilock brake system (ABS) and traction control system (TCS) operation, there are current requirements that will cause the voltage to drop. Because of this, voltage is monitored out of ABS/TCS control to indicate a good charging system condition, and also during ABS/TCS control when voltage may drop significantly. The EBCM also monitors for high voltage conditions which could damage the EBCM.

SOUND LIKE PROBLEMS IN THE EBTCM OR THE ELECTRONIC BRAKE CONTROL MODULE AND TRACTION CONTROL MODULE.ALL YOU CAN DO IS CHECK ABS FUSES AND RELAYS.IF ALL IS GOOD THE DEALERSHIP HAS TO USE A TECH SCANNER TO FIX THE PROBLEM.

Brake peddle is chattering 2003 ion and would like to pull the anti lock brake fuse (if safe ) until i can afford the repair. I would like to know witch fuse to pull?ABS is on and traction control

If brake pedal is chattering or pulsating it is most likely because you need either front or rear rotors, or both. They are rusted or out of round. If there is something wrong with either your abs or traction control, the abs or traction control light will come on & stay on. As soon as these lights come on, it automatically disables abs or traction control. If you would like to take out fuse that disables abs or traction control circuits, it will leave the lights on.You just wont have their functions. If by some strange condition your chattering goes away, then there is indeed something wrong with your abs or traction control.Fuses are labeled abs or traction either under hood or in your fuse panel in car.

I would pull the fuse. I do not like traction control or abs personally and I pull the fuse on both. They tend to have problems in their circuits and the pumps and I do not trust them

2004 sienna toyota van electric door not working

The first thing to check is the fuse that controls that door's motor. Look in your manual for the fuse chart. Determine where the fuse panel is and which fuse it is. Pull that fuse and take a close look to see if it has blown. If so, replace it with a new one of the same amperage
