Back door hatch or back passenger door?

More than likely the lock has seized and you'll have to take the interior door panel off in order to access the mechanics of the door lock to see what is jammed. Good luck.

Testimonial: "thank you very much got it fixed the lock was seized and all it needed was wd40 thanks again"

hi thank you for replying so promptly i did that already and think its mechanical not electrical what would be the next step

  • kateinNH Apr 09, 2011

Sometimes in older vehicles the metal will seize together because of a lack of lubrication and movement over time, purchase some WD-40 and spray the areas that look like the moving parts liberally, let it sit for a day or so and then try everything again. Its kind of trial and error with moving the parts around while seeing how it all works. Most aftermarket manuals don't go into detail on body parts like that so you just have to figure it out, if you can see the mechanism, give yourself some time, some lubricant and be patient.

My door latch will not lock in to place. It is below freezing and I dont know if the door is broke or the latch is just stuck

Likely it's just stuck. Spray it with wd 40 or other solvent and make sure the latch hook is open. If it's not, pull the door release handle (like you are opening the door) and gently pry the hook back to the open position.

Tailgate stuck

The auto lock burned out you need to go to dealer and get ripped off for $300 to have them fix it. Make sure you tell them the exact problem since it took 3 mechanics two days to figure mine out after i told them what was wrong the first time. Not too swift there.

Lock mechanism in my doors is broke

the rod inside the door has come off this happens often, most of the time its because the srcew holding the inside door handle is loose try tightening it first, if this does't work remove the inside door handle held on with a t15 or t 20 scew and see if the rod has come off at the handle try pulling on the rods to unlock the door then open it, once the door is open remove door panel 2 screws at bottom and just pry up on the soft upper grommets if it a half door reomve door panel and plastic moisture barrier rods connect from the outside lock cylinder to the lock mech and rods also go from the inside lock to the mech one or both of these has come off reconnect them sometime the clips to hold them in place fall down into the bottom of the door if they are not on the rods look there..hope this helps

I HAVE A 1996 MERCURY VILLAGER AND YESTERDAY THE BACK HATCH WOULD'T OPEN. IT'S LIKE IT 'S CAUGHT ON SOMETHING

The handle may be stuck in the open position due to rust. Try to push back the handle and play (open/close/open) with the lock control. The same thing will eventually happen to the sliding door, and the culprit is the inside handle, stuck in the open position, preventing the door to close completely. Good luck.
