Was it running before you replaced the timing belt ? Did you verify the timing marks are in the right place after installing the belt ? Does the engine have normal compression ? Will it try to start if you spray starting fluid into the throttle body ?
According to a Gates website (they make timing belts) and another online list (googled: toyota interference engine list), all the engines in the 1991 Celica are free-running and should not suffer damage from a broken timing belt while driving. Cheers!
I'm going to guess TIMING BELT. Fairly common with this engine. Thankfully, they are a "NON-interference" motor so it didn't do any damage when the belt snapped. Just need to replace it. Should cost around $300-$400 depending on where you are. Good luck!
If its a twin cam most likely. You can ask at Autozone or Oreilly auto parts.A Chilton or your owners manual will have the info on the timing belt change servicing
