If there is definitely no fuel leak then it may be the emission system evap system, venting to the atmosphere and not being held within the evap emission system.this could be a vacuum control valve not working properly or a hose cracked or has come of its mounting, the computer system should be checked for a possible code, and repaired depending where the code leads to,the gas cap can also be not securely fastened or the gas cap seal in poor condition allowing gas vapors to could have a small fuel leak under the hood seaping past a seal.

Check the plastic pipe between the main fuel line and the injector rail. Had the same problem. Remove the fuel line, cut the plastic pieve of pipe off and replace with injector hose and two clams. Works perfect.

2000 Dodge Intrepid with PO455 code and stalling.

A code 455 most likely one or more of the following has happened
a loose or bad gas cap
a non-conforming gas cap
other leaks or damage pieces in the evap system

Inspect the evap system for cracks or breaks in lines listen for vacume leaks or strong gas fume smell and fix all lines you find that are damaged ..I know you say you put a new gas cap but make sure it a conforming cap..Hope this helps

I have a 2000 Dodge Intrepid that smells funny when I turn on the AC. I have looked it up and the forums say to change the Cabin Air Filter. I can't find where the filter is?!

You do not have a cabin filter....Two need to check (freon preasure) you may have a freon leak from the AC evap coil behind the instrrment panel, the smell is AC freon pag oil from the AC system, it smells funny. Or you may have mildew build up on your evap coil there is a spray to disinfect the coil.Check auto zone or pep boys....Good luck my friend

Gas smell in car

There is a recall on the fuel rail for your vehicle. In my case I had 2 leaking fuel injectors. The intake manifold needs to come off, but it pretty easy to change the o-rings on the leaking injectors. Costs is about $25 for the new o-ring and about 2 hours of your time.

Gas smell

There has to be a leak in the fuel system. Has it been checked while running? There will be at least 2 lines. One will be pressure and the other is a return.

Fuel Smell in Car

I had this problem.  The fuel pressure regulator was leaking gas.  $50-$100 for a replacement.  It is not safe to drive around if you have a gas leak - could start a fire. Look under the hood to find where the gas is leaking, should be easy to see/smell when the car is running.  If you cannot find it, take it in to a shop right away.
