Sounds like the drive gear on the motor is slipping. talk to a dealer or good car electrical tech. Check online forums for significant problem feedback.

I have G6 convertible sensor "top not secure" warning on panel. However secure and working. The hard top just stopped opening. Please advise Deborah

Hi Deborah , Your going to have to take to the dealer , there is a DTC - diagnostic trouble code stored in the ( FTC ) folding top control module . Such as this one DTC B1296
S14 is the Folding Top Front Latch Actuator Position switch. The Folding Top Control (FTC) Module uses S14 to determine when the top is latched in both the open and closed positions. S14 closes and pulls the signal circuit low when the top is latched.
DTC 1296 01: Movable Roof Header Unlatched Sensor Circuit short to battery

DTC 1296 06: Movable Roof Header Unlatched Sensor Circuit short to ground or open

DTC 1296 58: Movable Roof Header Unlatched Sensor Circuit incorrect reaction after event

DTC 1296 59: Movable Roof Header Unlatched Sensor Circuit circuit/component protection time out

Circuit/System Description
S1 is the Folding Top Header Latch Cylinder Sensor. The Folding Top Control (FTC) Module uses S1 to determine if the Folding Top Header Latch Cylinder is in the latched or unlatched position. S1 is a hall effect sensor that becomes active when the cylinder is in the unlatched position.

On a 207 G6 GT Pontiac retractable hardtop where is the sensor that gives the message top not secure. Top goes up and down seem secure will not allow the trunk to open with the key or door button

The retractable hard top is controlled by the folding top control (FTC) module.
Power Folding Top System Components
The power folding top system consists of the following components:
?€¢
The folding top control (FTC) module

?€¢
Hydraulic pump assembly; valve 1, valve 2 and motor

?€¢
The hydraulic lines and the cylinders

?€¢
GMLAN communication to the Body Control Module (BCM)

?€¢
Open/Close request circuit to the driver and passenger window motors

?€¢

-

?€¢
Folding Top Open/Close Switch (S15 and S16)

?€¢
Rear Compartment Limit Switches

-
Rear Compartment Lid Release Switch (S3 and S4)

-
Rear Compartment Lid Release Switch-Front Hinge-Left (S11 and S12)

-

-
Rear Compartment Lid Release Switch-Right (S19B)

-
Rear Compartment Partition Position Switch (S20)

-
Folding Top Front Location Pin Position Switch (S13)

-
Folding Top Front Latch Actuator Position Switch (S14)

?€¢
Hall Effect Sensors

-
Folding Top Header Latch Cylinder Sensor (S1)

-

Your best bet is have the system checked for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes ! If it showed a message top not secured there is a DTC stored in the control module ! there are 24 possible DTC'S

2005 Pontiac g6 thermostat is reading 200 and I only drive a mile down the road ... What could this be?

ased on General Motors' lengthened "Epsilon" platform, the Pontiac G6 was produced from 2005-'09 as a sedan, coupe and retractable-hardtop convertible. For '05, only the sedan was offered; the coupe and convertible debuted a year later. Three main trim levels were offered on the sedan: base, GT and GTP (which became the GXP in '08). Coupes were either GTs or GTP/GXPs, convertibles GT only. Plenty of standard features, such as air-conditioning, full power accessories and CD audio, came on the base model. The GT added niceties such as an upgraded Monsoon audio system. The GXP topped the range with items like sporty exterior styling tweaks and automatic climate control.
At the time of Pontiac's demise, the G6's engine lineup included a base 2.4-liter four (164 horsepower), a 3.5-liter V6 (219 hp), a 3.9-liter V6 available on the convertible only (222 hp) and the GXP's 3.6-liter V6 (252 hp). Four-speed automatics were standard with all except the GXP's V6, which got a six-speed; however, the four-cylinder got an optional six-speed for 2009 that raised highway fuel economy to a laudable 33 mpg. Some power ratings were a bit lower in previous years, notably the 3.5-liter V6, and a manual transmission was available on a limited basis until '08.
In reviews we found that the Pontiac G6 offered generous room for those riding in back, no matter the body style. And we noted that after years of enduring criticism about its overstyled exteriors and gimmicky interior designs, Pontiac stepped up its efforts with the G6. Outside, the G6 had a crisp and sleek look; inside, there was a restrained and attractive layout with none of the traditional dull gray plastic switches. Even so, the G6 still had a few too many cheap plastic surfaces for our tastes.
On the road, we appreciated the low and midrange torque of the 3.5-liter V6, and the ride was smooth. The convertible's optional 3.9-liter V6 should be avoided if possible, though -- it was barely more powerful than the 3.5-liter V6 and got worse fuel economy. Handling was respectable, but we disliked the electric power steering, which was too light and offered virtually no feedback. GT models from 2007 and up had an improved hydraulic steering setup, which we preferred. Along with the enhanced feature content of the later models, we'd recommend focusing your used Pontiac G6 search on the '07 or newer models.

I just bought a 2007 Pontiac G6 GT hardtop convertible. For the first few days, the top would go up and down but sometimes it would stop halfway and I'd have to shut it and then open it again and it...

unfortually the dealer may be your only option. these tops are very difficult to check out and repair. when this messgae comes up, it will require a GM tech 2 scan tool to isolate the problem, this top has several latches and several micro switches. any one of the latches or micro switches can cause this message. the scan tool can monitor the latch and switches operations to isolate which one is at fault. in most cases it is one of the front three that causes the problem
