Question about 1992 Subaru SVX
Sir: i have this problem with my 1992 subaru svx lsl. when i am driving the car it sometimes shuts off. no warning and no indication. the fuel pump and the fuel filter are new. a parts manager at a subaru dealer in MASS. told me it may be the fuel control modulator under the rear deck by the rear speakers. take off the covering to see it. it may be the yellow wire ground. or it may be the fuel pump relay to the right of the steering column under the dash. dave firstname.lastname@example.org

Instead of cleaning the mass airflow sensor, replace it with a new one, not from salvage yard, from maybe auto zone. The original one that came with the car is most likely defective, after so many miles and years of useage.

If the engine cuts-out while driving, does it start back up after sitting a few minutes? The problem will be spark or fuel. If the engine starts back up and dies unexpectedly on occasion, it is more likely something failing: 1) fuel pump 2) Mass Airflow Sensor
If the SVX has over 125K miles, it probably the fuel pump. To check the MAS, cut away silicone sealant on square plastic circuitry cover and inspect metal for discoloration from previous hot spots.
