Easy fix. Follow the upper radiator house to the inlet housing. Remove the 2 bolts that hold it in place. Pull out the old thermostat and put the new one in. Then put the 2 bolts back in. Make sure they are tight but dont get to hard on them. About 20 foot lbs is plenty of force.

The thermostat is normally located in the aluminium elbow that the top radiator hose connects to. The elbow is usually held down by two bolts and it is only necessary to remove these to replace the thermostat. It may not be necessary to remove any hoses. Take care that the new thermostat is correctly located in its recess and the old gasketing has been completely removed and that the new gasket has a smear of gasket cement on it. While tightening the bolts, make sure that the elbow is seating evenly and not catching on the edge of the thermostat or you could crack the elbow.

Could it be thermostat

Not much we can do online about the mechanic. The hose probably blew when the engine overheated, so he would need to replace it to test the cooling system. And yes the thermostat would be tested or replaced before removing the heads.
Be sure and get a second opinion if his final diagnosis is a blown head gasket. He may be right, but better to be sure.

I live in Jamaica (no winter) can I remove the thermostat on my jeep liberty, 2005

Yeah it can safely run without a thermostat, but it will probably have a check engine light on later for code P018--engine temp too cold for too long. The engine will perform better with the thermostat and will get better fuel economy with the thermostat in place.

no, you couldn't check it all by yourself. it would be better to certified mechanic. but for me, you don't have to change the engine. time between overhaul first. the engine could have still be useful.

My 2000 chrysler cirrus had a small undetectable water leak. My mechanic 1st said it was the freeze plugs rusted, then he replaced the radiator cap, thermostat, and gasket seal. I drove it 20 miles and...

sounds like a snow job
should have pressure tested the system on the hoist and all leaks fixed the first time round
the cap , thermostat and whatever gasket that was replaced was not necessary as the cap and thermostat would not be the leak
ask what the long tube is for as radiator and heater hoses can be got from a local parts shop or dealer spares
next time use accredited service centers and get a better job done cheaper

How difficult to replace 1995 Toyota Corolla radiator/thermostat

You can replace the radiator yourself, but why do you need to? The thermostat is on the engine. Follow the large hose that goes to the engine block....not the water pump. The thermostat is under that or sits on the top of the engine....looking for a pic for you!

I have a 2003 saturn vue which repeatedly gave me the P0128 code. I replaced the water pump, and ultimately had to replace the thermostat. The water pump is a $40 part, the thermostat is a $25 part. Problem is that its a 4 hour job by chilton timeframe. If you have the know how you can do it yourself on a saturday afternoon, however if your not familiar with playin with a Saturn, better take it to a professional.
