There is an ignition module, which sits underneath the coils, has been known to go bad.

check compression ..a difference of 15 lbs compression from cyl to cyl will cause in balance. if ok check crank sensor, supplies signal for coil to fire

Car is turning over but does not have fire through spark plugs

on the front of the engine there are two coil packs, and underneath them an ignition module. go to a junkyard and get another set, they are all about the same 91-99. if that does not work then you are looking at another computer. i am assuming you have actually checked and there is no spark at the plugs and that the plug wires are in good shape.

Okay, i just got done pulling my spark plugs and wires out so i could test my spark. Only two plugs are firing right. And those two plugs are on the same coil pack. The other two are only firing...

The spark issue is caused by the coil packs, this will cause the bogging down, the smoke could be from several issues beside the spark, can't tell till you repair the coil packs

I am working on my friends 97 saturn 4 cyl he had someone else change the plugs and wires. The car was running before i tried to start the car but will not turn over. I am getting white smoke out the tail...

1342 is the firing order but white smoke signifies water loss like a head gasket or a inlet manifold losing water thats being sucked into the engine

1996 Saturn SL1 - 1.9L-4 cyl. will not start. The starter turns the engine O.K.,there is fuel pressure in the line but no spark.Yet after connecting OBD II reader-it says there are no fault codes.....So...

possible coil pack which is a semi popular failed item on these vehicles....sometimes the pack will fire cold ,then break down hot. Another cause of failure is bad/open plug wires where the kv's have no where to go except right through the heart of that pack and to the easiest path to ground...check pink wires for 12v to the pack and if thats present you might need that puppy....good luck
