1) Unless you've done it recently, I'd change the air filter first.
2) Try a fuel additive to clean the fuel system, something akin to Redex.
3) Check your tyre pressures are correct
4) Check the engine timing.

Automatic, V-6, ideal RPM at 70 MPH?

Sounds like the transmission is not shifting into a higher gear. 2,500 to 3,000 rpm would be more realistic for a highway cruising speed. The higher rpm may not be a big deal as far as the engine is concerned but it will hit you pocket book pretty good when you loose the mpg that you should get. I would personally either limit your driving until it can be checked or at least slow down so that the RPMs are in the range listed above. Let me know what they find, my curiosity is peaked!

Whats my average mpg?

A 99 sonoma 2wd 2.2L 4cyl with the 4 speed auto will get 22mpg on average, 19mpg in the city and 26mpg on highway
4.3 6cyl 4wd with 4 speed auto will get 18 combined average, city 16 and highway 21.
4.3 2wd auto will get 18 combined average, city 17 and highway 22.
4.3 5 speed manual 2wd will get 19 combined, 17 city and 23 highway.
4.3 4wd 5 speed manual will get 18 combined, 17 city and 21 highway.
These estimates from an online source, my buddy has the 4.3 4 speed auto 4x4 and he averages about 16 on average.
hope this helps.

I'm getting this code p0582 on Mar 19 2009 you sad you did not no what it was. Do you know now? there no more codes. Cruise Control Related Malfunction i tern on the Cruise Control. Light comes on I set...

P0582 is the Chrysler Diagnostic Trouble Code (Error Code) for:

Speed control vacuum or vent solenoid circuits open or shorted

If you do not have cruise control on your vehicle, you can ignore this code. If you do, you've probably noticed it is no longer working or only works intermittently. The code is saying it's an electrical problem to the servo.
