Follow the big radiator hose from the top of the radiator to where it connects to the engine. at the end of the hose is a metal housing usually held on by three bolts remove the bolts and pull away the housing the thermostat is located just inside.

99 cadillac deville runnin hot

Look for the silly stuff. Check for things blocking off the radiator, coolant level, water pump belt, etc. If none of those help, check the cooling fan, coolant temperature sensor, fan relay and fan fuses. If everything there is working, consider a stuck thermostat, an obstruction in the cooling system itself or a failed water pump. Kind of a long shot but engine timing can also make it run hot. Hope this helps.

How to change thermostat

Well the thermostat is in the frount of the block under the timing cover. The easyist way to change it is take it to a mechanic. Or you will have to take bumper off and start removing all the stuff off the frount of the engine. Look up u tube there are some handy clips. But i would take to machanic.

1999 VW Passat heat not working

Could be your thermostat... If defective, it will not allow the engine to heat up. Take the coolant cap off before you start the car when it is cooled off. start the engine and let it idle, look at the coolant. The coolant should not be flowing or moving right when you start the engine, if it is, the thermostat is bad. If you dont have enough coolant and you see it is low, this may also cause the heater to stop working. Someone may have by-passed your heater coil, check that. Sometimes when a heater coil leaks, people will by pass it so that they can continue to use the car or they cant afford to change it. It should be located on the passenger side under the dash or on the firewall inside the engine compartment on the passenger side. Another thing could be your climate control which is a fancy name for the heater controls on your dash, sometimes the switches become defective and will not operate the heater.

Ihave a 99 vw passat 1.8 ,replaced head timing belt, gear, and cover, new water pump, thermostat, and overheats very quickly.it has 2 fans,1 electric the other is driven by beltsand is with fan clutch, clut

First, Ronald is an IDIOT! DO NOT power wash the engine EVER! If the engine is really hot and you spray ice cold water on it can crack the head instantly! Also, everyone knows' water and electricity don't mix! the ignition control module is $300. A little water on that and its gone!
If your car is overheating, you may need a water pump! The one you got, may have been bad! The rule is, as soon as a car overheats, the thermostat MUST be changed! A simple test would be to remove the thermostat and close it back up! A few dollars for the gasket is all you will spend! Try and run the car without it and see if it still gets hot! If it still gets hot, check the water in the radiator or resivor to see if the water is also hot. If its hot then the water pump is working and you need to check the fans! You can run a power wire to the fan to make sure they are working. There are relays for those also! If they are not turning on, that is most likely your problem! I rebuild VW's for a living!

Where is the thermostat for 2004 volkswagen passat 2.8l 6cyl located on the car?

The thermostat housing is to the right side of the engine, mounted under the coil pack location. Look for the coolant hoses going into the housing with the 3 temp sensor harnesses in the front of it. That whole assembly is the thermostat housing. The thermostat itself is inside of it.

If you plan to do this yourself, I suggest removing the battery (for better access) and drain the coolant before you pull the thermostat housing off. Be aware that the housing is plastic and it will need replacing if it is cracked or damaged during removal.

Follow the top radiator hose inwards towards the engine and where it connects to the engine is usually the thermostat housing which can be removed by a couple of bolts to reveal the thermostat.. Make sure the engine is cold first!!
