Question about Nissan Altima

1 Answer

My 1995 Nissan Altima's starter will not start the car unless boosted with 250 amp battery charger boost, sometimes, and sometimes not. Swapped battery.... same thing. Cleaned and tightened all connections and checked fuse. Starter acts and sounds fine when it does start. Don't want to remove starter if I don't have to as the job doesn't look pleasant. Won't start with a jump from another vehicle. What's my problem?

Sounds like the starter is going bad. The internals of the solinoid may be breaking down. By adding the extra amperage to the system your basically forcing it to work. You may want to check the posts on the starter. If they are coming lose they can give you the same tell tales of a bad starter.

My 2005 Nissan Altima is making a rapid clicking sound when trying to start it & fails to start. Is it the starter or what?

Sounds like a dead/low battery. Give the car a boost to see if it starts. The life expectancy of an automotive battery is 5yrs. How old is yours? If newer, have the charging system tested if vehicle stgarts with a boost

How do I use a Schumacher SC 10030a battery charger to start a car? The battery is dead.

Connect it to the battery and put it on boost or start mode then try the key.
It is far better to charge the battery on normal charge mode at least for a good while on the 30 amp setting so there are more cranking amps. Starters can be damaged by not enough starting amps. Alternators can also be damaged by too low batteries as it strains them. I would recommend a good charge first if not that at least leave the 30 amp charge mode connected for a while if you are successful cranking the vehicle on the 100 amp boost mode.
Some automobile manufacturers recommend disconnecting the battery completely to charge it.

I have a 1995 safari van charged battery and took it off charger it then wouln;t start so i boosted it, then started took it for a drive and then shut it off it wouldnt start whats wrong with it?

May have a bad starter solenoid and the extra boost is whats needed to get it to work.
May also have a dead cell in the battery. Use a multi meter and test the battery. Should have about 12.6 volts. 12 volts would not be a full charge. May even want to take the battery to a parts store and have it tested unless you have a tester to check the amps.

My 1995 Nissan Altima won't start. Has lights, power etc - tried to boost anyway, with no luck. No clicking like a starter problem. Tried moving gear shift, still not turning over.

Try this : Turn the head lights on , try and start the engine . Carefully watch the headlights , if they dim some what you have a starter problem . If the headlights go off replace the battery . If the headlights stay bright you have an open circuit problem .

If the latter is the case I would recommend looking at the inhibitor switch which is located on the automatic transmission . This would usually be the problem .

1997 bravada wont start

Hook fuel pressure gauge up to port near firewall. A battery charger sometimes boosts the vehicle voltage just enough to engage weak fuel pump. Should show 50-60 lbs all the time while cranking when not starting on battery.

Hi, I have a Nissan Altima 95. Had a starter problem. I live in colder climate region of Alberta, canada. I purchased a used starter from a parts seller in Texas. I replaced the starter in July of 2009....

Yes continious cranking of an engine puts a big strain on a starter in any weather, but almost certainly in cold, it takes a lot of amps to turn an engine, It maybe the fuel is starting to freeze?, Maybe it's an electrical issue such as points, plugs timing, distributor cap, rotor arm inside the cap, maybe it's just settings

Plenty of power in cab wont turn starter

even though there are accessories on, there may not be enough to turn starter over. Or the connection is bad or not metal to metal contact. Last possible cause would be faulty solenoid.

2004 nissan altima 2.5s, engine wont start maybe battery, but wont even boost now....

It may not start now because the battery is completely dead. Take your battery to an auto parts store and have it checked. Chances are, since 2004, you may need a new one. Good Luck

2004 altima 2.5s battery died because of cold. got a boost and now the remote start wont work and that blue ligt that is on the mirror for alarm system doesnt consantly flash like it used to. it stays on.

aye man those new cars avoid getting car boost because it will jolt the system and cause all over the vehicle cause it happen to me. Your best option is to remove the battery take it to auto zone napa etc. and have them test to determine either new battery or new alternator which by the powers up the battery.
