Question about Ford Contour

1 Answer

Which sensor in engine compartment if shorted or open kills fuel pump

My 2000 Ford Excursion would not turn-over and the theft light was on. I checked the battery and fuse whiched were ok and replaced the connectors to the battery. In talking with a tech at the dealership he said the alarm needed to just be reset by the dealer now there telling me it could be my fuel pump. I had to have the vehicle towed to the dealer. Do you have any suggestions?

Could be the sensor on the power steering line. I know it sounds odd but thats how ford desined it...It was done as a precaution so you couldnt pop a line or damage the pump by turning wheel to far thus causing a pressure back up

1 Answer

Where is the fuel pump relay and how can e serviced?

Description

*: ECM determines the start signal status by the signals of engine speed and battery voltage.
The ECM activates the fuel pump for several seconds after the ignition switch is turned ON to improve engine start ability. If the ECM receives a engine speed signal from the camshaft position sensor (PHASE), it knows that the engine is rotating, and causes the pump to operate. If the engine speed signal is not received when the ignition switch is ON, the engine stalls. The ECM stops pump operation and prevents battery discharging, thereby improving safety. The ECM does not directly drive the fuel pump. It controls the ON/OFF fuel pump relay, which in turn controls the fuel pump.

Where is the fuel pump reset button on a 1997

I doubt that there is a reset button. Fuel pump is controled by fuel pump relay which is controlled by ECU, which computes the needed fuel needed by the engine, based on inputs from many sensors on the engine. If you are having problems check with an auto parts store who may help you read the error codes and will sluggest needed parts.

are you able to have the engine code read? for free at any autozone or advance auto parts store? sounds exactly like you have a bad computer, located on the passenger side at the kick panel where your right foot would be if you're setting in the passenger side seat.!1st i would check your ecm fuse located under the hood in the main fuse box on the driverside fenderwell, all good? then move towards the computer. thank you for choosing fixya.com!

Other then the fuel pump is there any relays or sensors that will stop the vehicle from getting fuel? If so where are they located?

There is a fuel pump relay and fuel pump fuse. It's in the fusebox under the hood, it should be on the driver's side wheelwell. There isn't really any sensors that would not allow the fuel pump to run.
