Question about 1998 Chevrolet Cavalier
To install the serpentine belt, you must release the tensioner, show in this rather poor sketch but the only one I could find. Before fitting the belt, check the tensioner wheel bearing bearing for wear and free play and also check the water pump bearings for looseness. These are the ones that normally give trouble. Give the others a feel for abnormalities as well just in case. Replace anything that is suspect now before it has time to let you down.
