Question about 2005 Ford Taurus

1 Answer

I have a 2005 Taurus SE. For the last few months now on a cold start, I must turn the key on but not thru to start until the bells and buzzers quit, then turn it to start; other wise it will just crank endlessly. If I forget and attempt to start, it may take several atttempts to get it to finally start. It also makes a clicking sound in the dash if I try to start it too fast after I turn the key off...Some times the instrument panel gets wacky and starts flashing wildly too.

This is just a sugestion and in no way meant to answer your problem, but this sounds suspiciously like the the problems that used to occur with the neutral saftey switches on the older taurus.

2005 Ford taurus SE won't run. It will turn over.I have replaced the fuel relay. The battery, lights, horn, etc. are working. Any other suggestions?

Fuel filters plug up. Check it. If the car has had a hard bump it's possible the fuel shut off valve has closed off the fuel supply.

WAS RUNNING GOOD, TRIP OF ABOUT 10 MILES, STARTED TO DIE, ENGINE RPM DROPS AND THEN QUITS. RESTARTED OK BUT ALMOST IMMEDIATELY DIED AGAIN. SON LIMPED IT HOME, DOES START BUT ENGINE RPM IS A MAX O F2

If it dropped below freezing, you may have water freezing solid somewhere in the fuel system; try a bottle or two of "Dry Gas" and while the vehicle is running, it should mix with the water and get it out of the system!

Good day: I don't accept that cold starting an engine at 2000 RPM is OK. Those immediate revs on a cold engine are wearing out parts that need oil lube and warm-engine clearances. Is there a simple way of...

I have heard that Fords theory behind that is to supply maximum oil pressure to moving parts sooner. All the Ford products do this and the motors last well into the hundreds of thousand of miles. I wouldn't be to worried about it since there is no issue with it to my knowledge and there is no way to limit the cold start RPM's.

Cold start warm ups are a thing of the past. Better lubricants, engines, fuel injection and other computer controls have made start ups easier on the engine. 30 seconds is barely enough time to warm up anything and after a few seconds oil has already reached all of its intended lubricating points. That first few seconds is the hardest on the engine. Regardless of how any RPM's it is turning.

Is there a plug in for a diesel jetta

I don't believe any VW sent to the US in the past 15+ years has come with a plug-in heater. The only exception is if the car was from Canada, or if one was installed afterwards.

If the engine turns too slowly to start, try cleaning the terminals of the battery, if still nothing- replace the battery.

If the engine turns over but just won't fire up cycle the glow plugs a few times before trying to start. Turn the key to on, wait for the glow plug light to go out after a few seconds then turn the key off. Repeat 2 or 3 times before you try to start.

Also make sure you use a fuel additive for the cold months. Look for something with anti-gel on the label.
