Look on front cover of the engine. you have to have air conditioner system discharged at dealership.because you will have to remove ac compressor to get to crankshaft sensor 4.6l engine.

I read somewhere that it was behind the power steering resivior is this in the same area?

the crankshaft sensor is on the the lower front timing cover next to crankshaft pulley, the ac compressor and power steering has to moved not disconnected just move to the side out of the way.you wont have to discharge air conditioner compressor just move it aside with every thing still connected, dont disconnect any ac compressor lines.if you have to, take car to dealership to discharge ac system.

Alright i have a 97 thunderbird everything in the gage cluster works except for the tach if i have the cover off and turn the needle by hand then turn the key it resets itself to 0 but when its running it...

If the tach doesnt work will need to replace entire cluster i am 95% positive you cannot buy separate parts because everything on the cluster runs off one circuit board.

Check engine light came on, fault is for the Cam shaft position sensor. I changed the sensor. Didn't work. I changed the whole synchronizer assembly. Didn’t work. I checked the wiring, all good continuity...

OK, on a 1998 Ford Taurus have a service engine soon light. Scanning it said the Camshaft Sensor circuit was bad. So I replaced the camshaft sensor. Cleared the code and it came back.

In the winter time it comes, and in the summer time it goes away (or after a week or so of warm weather).

I think it's a wiring problem or a bad calibration of distance to the reluctor ring.

I think your problem on the 1997 Ford Thunderbird LX is the same thing.

Good luck on the repair.

Ok for an engine to run it needs air, fuel, spark and compression. You said you replaced the fuel pump. Have you checked your pressure after you replaced it? Also check the fuel pressure regulator and I've seen tons of parts house pumps fail on these and the Mark VIII's. You said you've checked for spark and you do have spark. I know this may sound silly but have you made sure the air filter is completely clogged? Also I'd pull the plugs back out, let 'em air dry for a bout 30mins or so, put them back in and try again. Wet plugs won't fire. Also make sure you have the cam sensor and crank sensor in properly and connected!

Need to replace o2 sensors on a 1997 thunderbird

you will need to crawl under the car and look at the mufflers where they come out of the motor and behind the catalytic converter. you will probably have one before and after the catalytic converter on both pipes. You will have to count the wires once you find them. They will be screwed directly into the exhaust pipe.

1996 thunderbird 4 6 power brakes and power steering fades in and out while driving"

This may be your problem.

FORD: 1994-96 THUNDERBIRD LINCOLN-MERCURY: 1994-96 COUGAR ISSUE: Steering efforts at low speeds may intermittently increase to the heavier for highway setting on some vehicles. This is due to electrical "noise" from the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) being picked up by the Electronic Variable Orifice (EVO) module. The EVO module then interprets this as an increase in vehicle speed and reduces the steering assistance to the heavier for highway level.
ACTION: Replace the EVO module with a new module that has improved filtering for electrical noise. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.
SERVICE PROCEDURE Replace EVO module (F6SZ-3F712-BB). Locations are as follows:
  • On 1994-95 vehicles, the EVO module is located under the package tray in the trunk.
  • On 1996 vehicles, the EVO is located under the heater blower case on the passenger side.
Refer to Section 11-02 of the appropriate year Thunderbird/Cougar Service Manual for additional diagnosis and repair information.

PART NUMBER PART NAME F6SZ-3F712-BB Electronic Variable Orifice Module OTHER APPLICABLE ARTICLES: NONE
WARRANTY STATUS: Eligible Under The Provisions Of Bumper To Bumper Warranty Coverage
OPERATION DESCRIPTION TIME 960402A Replace Electronic Variable Orifice (EVO) Module - 1994-95 Thunderbird/Cougar 0.5 Hr. 960402B Replace Electronic Variable Orifice (EVO) Module - 1996 Thunderbird/Cougar 0.3 Hr.

My '95 Thunderbird wil turn over but randomly will not start.

Your crank sensor may be really dirty and can't get a good signal from the reluctor near the balancer. Check the wiring harness to it as well. You may need a new crank sensor.
