It may be the brake light switch. have you tryed making the connection manually? or is it the 'e' brake switch staying on? try pulling up on the emergency brake pedal to insure the "e" brake switch is'nt bad before you replace a suspected bad brake light switch on the steering column. if you suspect a bad brake light switch, pull up on the brake pedal and look to insure the brakelight swich disenguages itself,it may only need adjusted.the plunger may be loose. or the plugin may be loose. if not any of these, then i suggest you replace the brake light switch on the steering column,at bottom, near floorboard,on the steering column itself.

94 chev pickup, no brake lights, I replaced the brake switch.

First check the fuse, if ok start checking the wiring from the fuse to the sockek of both lights, if ok check the ground. All this is provided you have the new switch adjusted properly.

My 2005 Chev Silverado occassionaly will not allow me to shift the gearshift handle on the steering column even though I have the brake pedal depressed. What releases the shifter lock on the gear...

Should be a switch further up the brake pedal that contacts when the brake pedal is pressed. Check this switch to see if defective or broke.
