ALL SENSORS GO BACK TO THE ECM(COMPUTER), THE OXYGEN SENSOR IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT, TELLS COMPUTER CHANGE OR ADJUST FUEL DELIVERY, AMONG OTHER THINGS, FIX THAT PROBLEM, PROPERLY, THEN U CAN MOVE ON. NEW AIR AND FUEL FILTERS FOR SURE ! IS BATTERY FULLY CHARGED ? THE GAS WE BUY IS GARBAGE, ETHENOL IS KILLING OUR ENGINES, ADD SOME PREMIUM FUEL, NEXT FILLUP, ADD STABIL 360 FUEL STABILIZER TO TANK, ARE YUR SPARK PLUGS AND WIRES IN GOOD CONDITION ? TUNE-UPS DO HELP. FUEL INJECTORS IF THATS WHAT U HAVE, GET DIRTY, CLOGGED, NEED CLEANER ADDED TO TANK, OIL CHANGE ALSO HELPS, GOTTA GET ENGINE RIGHT, AS U WOULD FOR INSPECTION. OR YOU'LL FAIL EMMISSIONS TEST, RIGHT ? GOOD LUCK MY FRIEND

I am having a starting issue like the engine isn't getting gas and also have a missing issue in third and forth gear when decilerating or at a constant throtle. I have been told this might be an oxygen...

By the way you describe it I believe it is the fuel filter clogged......The oxygen sensor will not keep it from starting...Also the sensor will make the engine light appear......However it could be failing..The TPS (Throttle Position Sensor )Will also make it run terrible as well. But this will not keep it from starting either..Both sensors have the same kind of effect on engine performance....The best way to check is have the engine scanned with an engine scanner...The MAP sensor ( Manifold Air Pressure ) This will also make it run badly.......The first thing you need to do is start with the fuel filter ....Fuel is not what it used to be....I have heard fuel problem stories from all over the U.S.It has become so bad that todays cheap fuel is damaging the complete fuel system in a lot of todays vehicles......You have to make sure all plugs and wires are good and are not corroded also have good tight connection...I would remove at least 2 of the plugs...One on each side...And check for corrosion...It is worth your time to change fuel filter unless you have had it done recently...Because there are always trash in all tanks.....Especially if you run it low on fuel then it will definitely get trash in it....If fuel filter doesnt change performance You need to scan engine....This will save you money in the long run because you cannot just guess.........Hope this helps.....Metalpoet

I have a 1994 Cavalier 2.2L that has a couple of problems. When the engine is warm and the car has sat for a couple of minutes after being turned off, it is hard to start. There is a strong odor of fuel....

Check the fuel injectors, right on the top rear of the intake, theyre notorious for leaking slightly from theyre o-rings that hold them in place, the fuel usually leaves a residue telltale,ie the intake is clean in that area,....also check the fuel regulator...it has a vacuum line hose on it...unplug it and see if it has any fuel in the vacuum hosing...if it has fuel in it the vacuum hose fuel regulator is bad...

1994 Chev Cavalier - engine light comes on randomly

One cause of the light to come on randomly is a loose gas cap. If it's not replaced tightly (turned until it clicks three or four times) it throws the light on. It's one thing to check anyway.

94 Firebird. Hesitates at 2K RPMs, surges at 3K. Low MPG, Rich.

Jen,

Some other easy items to check. Remove and clean the MAF/MAP Sensor and the inlet to the thottle body with some brake cleaner/electronics cleaner. Also may want to try some Fuel Injector cleaner as well. The O2 Sensors usually require a special socket which you can buy at the local auto parts store, and you can also use a "Crowfoot" Wrench. Usually if the O2 Sensors are bad they will set off the Check Engine Light. Some other items to consider is a Rotor and Rotor Cap if you have a distributer instead of a coil.

Sincerely,

JC

1994 dodge caravan, 2wd, 3.0 engine

12 - battery recently disconnected. 21 - Oxygen sensor signal doesn't change (stays at 4.3 - 4.5 V) possibly bad O2 sensor 37 - Transmission temp. sensor reading low.
There are many options that can cause these problems, but loose wiring to the battery and a weak alternator would be one of the first things to check.

Voltage intermittent, engine missing at all speeds, affect auto trans. shifting, kills hot or cold

The charging system, pedal, and sensors have been checked. The trans. problem and missing problems were the original problems and when my mechanic finally sent me to Chev. none of the problems " choose to show themselves." I should know on Mon. if my mechanic has solved the problems with the greater number of symptoms. Keep me in your files. More later-  Bill
