I would inspect the connections to the gear shift solenoids attached to the bellhousing of the transmission. There are two of them, and if in need to replace, it is a simple, inexpensive procedure, since the transmission or accessories dont have to come down to reach the solenoids.Other possibility is that the speed sensor is sending erroneous readings to the transmission, causing it to act randomly. You should have error warning lights lit up, especially the D position of the shifter.

Hi,
Looks like an overheating transmission or blocked fluid filter.
Replace the transmission filter and check the fluid by looking at the color and smelling it, if it smells burned, drain the AT fluid and replenish it with new one.
Hope that helps!

Transmission problem stuck in sport shift mode

I also have a 2009 Outlander Sportronic transmission with a V6 engine.
Bought it this summer ... transmission appeared fine but seemed to automatically slow down the vehicle using the engines compression whenever I let go of the gas pedal.
Now that the cold weather is upon us here in Canada, whenever I accelarate normally (not like a teenager) the transmission takes quite a bit of time to shift into second... If I rev up the engine (quick take off) it seems to help but the shifting of gears is not as smooth as I would expect it (mildly slips and kicks into second)...

The worst is when come to a complete stop ... then the transmission kicks coming down from the higher gears???

I read somewhere that this is because this transmission is a CVT type and is learning my driving habits in order to adjust itself so the vehicle becomes more fuel efficient... Not sure but if the trany is computer controlled then it must be poorly writen program...
I'm taking the car in to the dealer and will write back on the diagnostic they give me ...

When my 95 Dodge Neon (automatic transmission) is really heated up and I slow to about 40 mph, the transmission downshifts to its second gear and stays there. I stop the car, run the shift lever through...

You need to free up your throttle pressure control cable linkage that sits above your shift cable linkage at the top of your transaxle on drivers side. I had the same problem from time to time, caused it to stay in lower gear longer, and shift down hard when slowing down. Happened more when I drove it a little harder as pushing gas pedal further down causes it to rotate, but then sticks & doesn't come back right a way. Free it up with penetrating lube first, then put a good coat of spray grease like white lithium after its moving freely again, and it should be problem free for a while. You may have to move some things to get at it. If you need a picture email (motor@mountaincable.net), seeing how I can't seem to figure out how to send it from here.
