Question about 1998 Buick Century

1 Answer

Radio problem with 98 Century.

I recently had a dead battery and since I jump started it, the radio has not worked. I bought the car 2 years ago and this is the first time I have had to replace the battery. According to the owners manual, the radio will display LOC if the lock is on. The radio is displaying nothing. There is power going to the radio because the buttons are lit at night. I have no radio and am about to go crazy. Any suggestions???

IT costs nothing to have a load test done on the battery to check for a dead cell which your problems point to. While the engine is running the alternator will be handling the power requirement but the battery will not supply the power required to start.

Have you checked the radio fuse? You may have blown the fuse when you jumped the car. The fuse box should be out under the hood encased in black plastic.

I have a 2004 A6. 3L. I seems as the battery is not charging. I could drive for say two hours. Go into a shop, leave the car radio on for the children. come out and the car is dead. I need to get jump...

sounds like the alternator is not charging the battery, when it doesnt start are you sure the battery is dead, i know you jump it but a faulty starter can od that also, if there are no inside lights or radio or headlights dont come on then its the battery and its defective or the alternator is not charging all the time may be bad, good luck hope this is helpful.

Hi, I have a 96 buick century,if i dont use it battery goes dead

The radio in my 1996 Buick century had a clock light that did not go off when the car was shut off, so the battery would go dead after 2 days. Disconnected the radio and all was well. Getting ready for a new radio now.

1998 buick century-electrial all work but when turn key like dead

Sometimes there will be just enough corrosion on the battery terminals to allow for low draw items such as the radio but not enough contact for the most heavy draw item, the starter. Start by cleaning the terminals. Also jumping of another car to the battery cable ends will tell you if the terminals connections are compromised.

Some German cars have anti-theft device inside to make it useless to steal...check at the dealership to see if jumping the battery will activate this(the car thinks its being stolen) .
