It is on the transmission. They probably forgot to connect it.

That happened once in a Datsun pick up I had. A friend took the boot off of the gearshift and found something had come loose and pushed it back into place.

Where is the transmission speed sensor located on a 1998 mercury mystique 6 cylinder 2.5 automatic 3 speed with overdrive

Hi,
You will find this on the back of the transmission, it has a large square connector and wiring connector to it. It has 1 bolt holding it in place.
Thanks

I've got a 1998 Mercury Mystique with a 2.5L V6,the automatic tranny .Can I replace the automatic transmission with a manualtransmission? Thank you

Yeah you can but it won't be easy. I would check some salvage yards for one with a stick in it. That way you can find all the parts you will need. Not only do you need the trans, you will need clutch, flywheel, slave cylinder, master cylinder, Clutch and brake pedals, cv shafts, mounts, shifters, shifter cables, and the computer, plus some other parts. I have done some of these conversions, they are not impossible. I have done this to a 2000 BMW 323. I can help you more if you want.
