If not broken don't fix is what my daddy always said, Not being a smart **** But if your belt is not having a proplem don't fix it. The timming gears go bad befor the belt, Most likely, good luck to you.

Altenater belt there is 5 or 6 pulleys there is a wheel that im not sure but i know it rotates like the pulleys but does not have the belt groves. how offten do u change the belt it is worn and loose...

If the pulley doesn't have grooves, it's most likely the tensioner pulley that you adjust to tighten or loosen the belt. Below is a diagram for your car that shows the individual pulleys and the belt routing. As far as how often to replace the belt, every other year works for me unless you put a lot of miles(more than 35,000 a year) on your car then I would advise every year.
Best of luck! Greg

first thing is the timing belt and water pump and thermostat. This job can be expensive but if not done will be catastrophic if belt breaks the next things will be : accessory belt , fuel filter, cabin filter, tentioners , battery ,cables , axles , sway bar bushings , control arm bushings , air conditioning system

03 vw bettle serptine belt

Replacing the serpentine belt on a New beetle is not easy as it was on the old one.

First you need to remove the Water tank, and undo the hoses near to the water tank.
Then you remove the three bolts securing the tensioner with a 13mm socket wrench, and release the tensioner.
Then you replace the belt.

The procedure is explained here on pages 2 to 5
, do not go over page 5, the rest of the procedure is on replacing the timing belt, and you risk to damage your car by touching the timing belt.

Once you replace serpentine belt, ensure that the pumps is running, that the belt is well in tension, and that is solidly there, not slipping out.

All the repairs must be done or supervised personally by a qulified mechanic.

Regards.

Nebettleed to change serpintine belt on a 2000 voltswagen

The easiest solution I can say would be to go to parts america or Advance Auto Parts during a non peak time and ask for help. These belts should be a 5 minute replacement and most store employees will enjoy offering you the free service just to get out of the store for a few minutes. SOME stores are more willing to help than others.

(If you over tighten the belt you will have problems and if you under tighten the belt you will have squeals. If you still wish to do this yourself just make sure the belt is tight enough that it only turns 90 degrees in the middle to the left of right when tightened.)
