By the time you lathe the armature, install new diodes and brushes and new bushings it's probably cheaper to just buy a rebuilt one from a parts store. Check around for prices and be sure to ask about the warranty.

You can rebuild your own alternator,IF you know
how to TEST the various components

The biggest problem is finding a place to get parts
You have to find a rebuilder to buy them & rebuilders
are almost a thing of the past

If you look on NAPA.Com, just as a quide ,you
will see the price of a rebuilt,I would think that
is your only choice

How or why is your bad?
Again, you have to know how to test on car

How to repair transmission on 1994 ford tempo

Parts will cost you more than the car is worth, on just the rebuild. Hard parts for the trans are way more. Just taking care of the problem will cost you way too much money. On just pulling the transmssion too many times.

Astra alternator

Usually an alternator only needs bearings, brushes and possibly diodes and regulator. Most people rebuilding an alternator replace all of them. If you haven't rebuilt one or helped someone rebuild one it can be a little trickey. Some require that you solder the diode plate, others need very precise assembly. Often a rebuild kit costs more than a rebuilt alternator.

How do you change the thermosait in a 89 ford tempo

you must remove air intake that has all of your car info on it then find the thermostat housing connected to your block remove your hose from housing making sure to catch the draining antifreeze pull out thermostat replace rebuild and start before changing your thermostat you may want to make sure you fan is also working to cool off the radiator if your temperature gauge hits half way and your fan does not kick on you need to replace it it is a cheap part at pick n pull and is a little easier to fix i also recommend that if your fan is dead to replace it along with the thermostat

Is changing the alternator easy for non-mechanic but dexterous person

If you get the Haynes or Chilton repair manual for the vehicle there are step by step for doing a complete tear down and rebuild of the vehicle. Cost of $20-$60 depending on brand and where you purchase it. Best to get it at the auto parts store. Alternators are not too hard to change but in smaller cars are usually difficult to access. Before you know it you'll be a "back yard mechanic". Good luck to you
