Question about 1998 Chevrolet Malibu

1 Answer

Driving today, the power steering on my 1998 Chevy Malibu just stopped working mid-turn. After I was able to correct myself and start driving again the battery light came on and so did the warning light for the coolant (the engine was too hot). Is this just the battery cutting things off or is it a bigger problem?

My 98 chevy malibu 3.1l engine makes a whinning noise when driving when sitting idling doesnt make noise just when moving. what is problem please ?

Could be power steering pump or alternator. Best way to find out is to get a a couple feet of garden hose and listen closely to each. Its most likely your power steering pump. If it is, buy a new one not rebuilt.

Hi I own A 98 Chevy Malibu, my ignition locked n i had to put a new ignition switch in, well now my cars tellin me Something Theft Service. Im wonder what I need to do? Iv unhooked battery for hours ect...

You need to reset the theft system. To do this, try to start it. It should start and die. Then after it dies and the theft light is flashing, leave the key on for 10 minutes. After 10 min, the theft light should go out. After the theft light goes out, turn off the key. Count to 5, then restart it. Then it should work.

I got a letter from Chevrolet - says if the electrical steering problem happens within 10 years of the date of purchase or 100,000 miles, the "condition will be repaired for you at no charge"...It says the letter has to presented to the dealer as authorization to perform the service, though - (?) It says "If you have questions related to a potential reimbursement, please contact the Chevrolet Customer Assistance Center at 1-800-630-2438. The reimbursement claim form has this #: 1-800-204-0261. Good luck!

Problems starting

I own a 1998 Chevy Malibu personally, change the ignition switch I had the identical issue, the switch eventually stopped turning completely, my vehicle had to be towed!! Save yourself a headache, I got one from a junkyard for 2.00, but it had to be programmed for the vehicle, I would take it to a trusted shop or dealer.

1998 malibu loses power while idleing

your alternator is likely on its way out. you should take your car to a trusted mechanics shop and have the charging system tested. Its only a matter of time until the alternator stops charging and you'll be stranded on the side of the road
Hope this helps..........Good Luck!
