1 Answer

I have a 98 ram 1500 with a 5.2L and 2wd. I recently changed my timing chain and gears because truck wasn't running right. Now it idles up and down crazy. Backfires and sounds like ****. The timing was off bit when I put it right I cranked it on with everything off Still and it ran good and sounded badass. After putting everthibg back together and water in radiator I started up for first time and it does the same ****. Help me please.

Scan truc with a tech ll that runs a data stream--cause u need precise readings--inspec throttle body and idle air control-may need cleanin--hows the thermostat-its crucial for correct operation

clean the idle air like u did the throttle--the motor can get grease etc on it and the passage may be blocked--if doesnt help then look to tps etc--get a haynes manual for procedure

I just flushed my raidiator and change my thermostat. It was real dirty. Started up And it sounded good. It ran for a good 5-7 min. Sounded great and smooth. Then it started stuttering and dies out. If I push the gas down to idle it up it stops bit when idle goes back down it does it again. What do I check now?

I have a 98 dodge ram 1500 with a 5.2L. I got a code of p1391. i changed out the crankshaft sensor, and still wasnt working right. I was then told to change out the computer, so i did, and still not...

try cleaning the throttle body, iside of it take a tooth brush and carb clean and scrub both bores especially were the plates rest at idle. the code is a missfire code. dirty throttle bodys cause all the problem you mention and then some.

Bogging down

you might have a bad tps (throttle positioing sensor) or maybe a vaccum leak or the idle air control solinoid is bad and be alot of things. if your check engine light came on, you can go to autozone and have them retrieve the code or codes to narrow it down

95 GMC Jimmy 4.3l W vin rough idle

My problem was solved when I repaired my 4 wd activation dash switch. The switch was contacting on 2WD & 4HI at the same time. The front differential activation is vacuum activated possibly creating a tug of war that didn't actually engage it but drained off vacuum from the engine? A theory at best but stumbbled across it because I knew the switch wasn't working properly I repaired it and low and behold rough idle disappeared and all is good for 3 weeks running.
