I have a 2010 Honda rancher 420, 4 wheel drive, fuel injected, straight axle. It won't crank in neutral and up. Instead, it cranks in reverse, and reverse only. The neutral light won't even come on. What...

Get a wiring diagram, possibly online, and trace the neutral position switch and cable. My guess is there is something loose or needs some TLC.

Reverse lights stay on in all gears

Back-Up Light remains always ON you should check the Park/Neutral Position Switch (A/T) .The park/neutral position switch detects the shift lever position and sends signals to the ECM.
The ECM receives signals (NSW, R, 2 and L) from the park/neutral position switch.

Could a bad Neutral Safety Switch cause my transmission to not stay i gear

I doubt it.
The only thing the neutral safety switch does is prevent you from cranking the engine in gear, and switches on the backup lights when you are in reverse.

I have a 2007 chevy 3500 hd dump truck reverse lights stay on at all times even when key off

take it to a dealer, it is most likely under warranty. tell them to check the neutral safety switch adjustment. it also generally is the switch for reverse lights.

Need to locate backup light switch on 1988 chevy 1500

I had the same problem. My backup lights wouldn't come on in when I put the auto. trans. shifter into the Reverse position. They WOULD come on briefly as I moved the shifter from Park position into Reverse, but would go off again when the shifter reached the Reverse detent. I got the solution from the Haynes service manual, in which the relevant switch is referred to as something like the neutral safety switch. Check on top of the steering column close to the firewall. Set the parking brake, then move the auto. trans. shifter into Neutral position. Get under the dash and rotate the neutral safety switch clockwise as far as it will go. Then move the shifter into the Park position, and your switch should be set. If the backup lights don't come on now when the shifter is put into Reverse position with the ignition switch 'on', there may be another problem.

My reverse lights are staying on even when car is in drive

Probably faulty reverse/neutral switch at tranny. Should be approx $20- $25 for switch, and I'm guessing 1/2 hr lab to change. Cleaning contact may help, worth a try, but doubtful.
